The Scottish League Cup kicks-off on Saturday afternoon and SlipsTips has lined up a Bet Builder double ahead of the opening round of group stage fixtures.
Falkirk vs Dundee United (Saturday, 15:00)
Two teams who won their respective divisions last season square off in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday afternoon, as Falkirk face Dundee United.
The Bairns won Scottish League One in style without losing a game, while the Terrors bounced back to the top-flight at the first time of asking after securing the Scottish Championship title.
With Coll Donaldson, Leon McCann and Tom Lang all out injured, Falkirk boss John McGlynn has an extremely small pool of established, recognised defenders to call upon.
As such, I’m prepared to keep the visitors onside here, so much so that I’m going to bundle up Dundee United Double Chance and Dundee United to Score as the first half of an 11/10 Bet Builder double on Bet 365.
Falkirk found themselves with a similar defensive headache during the final stretch of last season and that coincided with them failing to keep a clean sheet in eight of their final nine Scottish League One matches of the campaign.
While friendly fixtures should not be used to gauge how any game could pan out, McGlynn’s men have notably shipped two goals against both Dumbarton and Alloa across the last two weekends.
Jim Goodwin’s side will be a real step up in class and they look well placed to strike and avoid defeat in this Group B curtain-raiser at the Falkirk Stadium.
Partick Thistle vs Montrose (Saturday, 15:00)
Partick Thistle get their Premier Sports Cup campaign underway when they face Montrose at Firhill on Saturday afternoon.
The Maryhill outfit have experienced Scottish Premiership promotion play-off heartache in each of the last two seasons, while Montrose suffered a similar fate at the end of last season when trying to reach the Scottish Championship.
Jags boss Kris Doolan has largely retained the same core from last term and his summer transfer business has sent a signal to the rest of the second tier of Partick’s title intent.
Thistle will also have aspirations of winning Scottish League Cup Group G and they will have earmarked Saturday's meeting with Montrose as a must-win affair if they are to reach the round of 16.
The Angus outfit have proven a tough nut to crack over the years under Stewart Petrie’s stewardship but they face a tall order trying to topple Partick on their own patch.
Doolan’s side avoided defeat in 18 of their 22 league and cup matches in Glasgow’s west end last season and they should hit the ground running by getting the better of the Gable Endies.
