THERE'S a brief lull in the international football today before Euro 2024 gets underway but punters have some Irish top-flight football to tide them over.

It's tight at the top with just two points separating Shelbourne and Derry City, although the leaders do have a game in hand. Both are on the road tonight and Shelbourne have the tougher assignment at fourth-placed Waterford.

Keith Long's Waterford aren't out of the title reckoning themselves as they sit nine points off the pace having played a game fewer than the leaders.

So a win tonight would fire the race for the crown wide open and it should be a keenly contested match.

Waterford vs Shelbourne Top Betting Tips

This is a repeat of the first game of the season, with the sides playing out a 1-1 draw in Waterford. Long's side didn't have a great record at home earlier in the season but they're flying now and have won their last four at the RSC.

Shelbourne have only lost once on the road all season though so the smart bet tonight could be the draw at 21/10 with Bet365. The half-time stalemate is a little safer at evens with the same firm.

We should see goals with BTTS and over 2.5 strikes landing in the last four for Waterford at the RSC. That bet pays a decent 13/8 tonight.

In-form Padraig Amond has six goals from his last four outings for Waterford so looks overpriced at 12/5 for anytime scorer.

Bohemians vs Derry City Top Tips

If Shelbourne drop points then Derry City could move to the summit with a victory at seventh-placed Bohemians.

The Candystripes are in great form, losing just once in their last 11 games, while their hosts only boast one victory from their seven. That suggests a Derry City win and it pays 19/20.

Bohemians can take heart from the fact they beat Derry at home earlier in the campaign. That match ended 2-1 so BTTS also appeals here at the same 19/20 price. Combining it with over 2.5 strikes boosts the odds to 8/5.

The last meeting of these sides produced 17 corners so over 10 flag kicks stands a chance tonight at 6/4.

St Partick's Athletic vs Shamrock Rovers Top Tips

Third-placed Shamrock Rovers are also still in the title reckoning as they find themselves nine points adrift with a game in hand.

A run of just two wins in seven games has damaged their push for glory but those victories have come in their last three outings so they're getting back on track.

St Patrick's have only claimed two wins in their last 13 so that's why Rovers are 10/11 favourites tonight. But Shamrock lost 2-1 when they last came calling and could only manage a 2-2 draw when they hosted Athletic.

Both those games saw a lot of goals but over 2.5 strikes hasn't landed in the last four for Rovers. St Pat's also drew 0-0 in their last outing so betting against BTTS might be the shout tonight at evens.

Thursday's Football Tips: Super Singles

  • Padraig Amond anytime scorer 12/5 Bet365
  • Over 10 corners in Bohemians v Derry City 6/4 Bet365
  • BTTS no in St Partick's v Shamrock Rovers Evens Bet365

    Euro’s
    Spain v Croatia
    Croatia double chance at 10/11
Croatia to win the comp at 40/1
Croatia play better against better opposition they will be tough to beat, defensively Croatia are sound and should they progress from the group won’t be far away.

    Serbia v England
    Serbia double chance at 13/8
    Serbia to win at 11/2
England have problems coming in to this tournament defensively with injuries to key players. Harry Maguire is missing and as bad as he is for his club side he was a regular for Southgate so he will be missed. John Stones has hardly played any football for a while and is not match fit which isn’t good heading in to this tournament, the likes of Konsa and the crystal Palace defender Guehi have been included and are set to start as is Lewis Dunk, if your picking England n your acca’s then it’s likely lost already. To put it simple heading into a tournament with a green defence and defenders that simply aren’t world class spells disaster and how the bookies make them favourites is beyond me. Own goals from England are a real possibility.

    Austria v France
    Austria to score at 4/7
    Belgium v Slovakia
    Slovakia to score at 4/6
    1.61/1 double

A roll up on all 4 pays 12/1
    Best of luck

Couple of Major Betting Changes from Corals from Monday to present for Euros..

    Specials

3+ Corners in Every game was 8/15, now 11/50.
4+ Corners in Every game was 7/2 now Evens

With there being 50 games in the Tournament.. would say it is now a poor value bet..

That 7/2 was a great bet. I mean that really shouldn’t lose even with 50 matches.. wish I’d seen that

All it takes is a technically A1 attacking team vs a really shíte defending team and it’s perfectly conceivable at least one game will end with a 10:0 scoreline and low corner count. Same can happen when 2 very similar teams face off – active game, but low corner count.

To illustrate, look at the last Euros competition:

      13/06/2021 England v Croatia – 2 corners
14/06/2021 Scotland v Czech Republic – ZERO corners
      23/06/2021 Portugal v France – 1 corner
      27/06/2021 Belgium v Portugal – 3 corners

3+ corners per game SEEMS like a safe bet, but based on previous years there will usually be a few games which stuff it up for you.

@ ChrisBax, you have to bear in mind that is Stats from past performances that you have quoted..

It,s the stats from the forthcoming Event /s that is the key in this case..and as is any form of sport/level. we don,t know how it will go till we get out there..

judging by the big shift in the 3+Corners bets, it.s possible that the big hitters may have a wee interest here..

    • Avatar of ChrisBax
      ChrisBax 5 months ago

      Totally agree.

I only posted it because, like everyone else, I thought 3+ corners per game in Euro 24 would be a licence to print free money. But when you look at the historic stats, between 5% to 8% of the games have ended in under 4 match corners – which surprised me. That’s all.

Future performance, as always, could be anything – and all 50 matches could equally end up with 10+ corners 👍
