Two clubs at opposite ends of the Irish First Division table meet at Bishopsgate on Saturday evening as 9th-placed Longford Town play host to 3rd-placed Athlone Town in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.m
Longford have scored 18 goals across their opening 15 matches in the Irish second tier this term, with nine (50%) of them coming on home soil.
The Town have found the back of the net in 11/15 (73%) of their league outings – scoring on multiple occasions in each of their previous three – and will look to trouble an Athlone defence that has registered a solitary clean sheet on their travels, shipping multiple goals in five (63%) of them.
Dario Castelo’s visitors have scored 21 goals across their opening 15 matches in the Irish second tier, with eight (38%) of them coming on their travels.
The Town have found the back of the net in 11/15 (73%) of their league outings – scoring on multiple occasions in four of their last five – and will be confident of troubling a Longford defence yet to register a clean sheet this season, conceding a league-high 32 goals.

Longford’s opening 15 Irish Division fixtures this campaign are averaging an eye-catching 3.33 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 11 (73%) of them, including in 7/8 (88%) of them on home soil – and given the same has landed in 9/15 (60%) of Athlone’s league contests, including in five of their last seven – I’m hoping we see a similarly high-scoring affair to the six goals these sides shared in the reverse fixture back in March.
