Roma vs Bologna

, KO: 17:30 Apr 22, 2024, Stadio Olimpico
Bologna

Roma and Bologna square off in a Monday night Serie A fixture with both teams gunning for a top four finish. There is little to separate both sides at the moment and as they appear evenly matched, a closely fought encounter could be on the cards here.

Roma have looked a different side since the appointment of Danielle De Rossi as manager and are flying high in recent weeks. They are yet to taste defeat in Serie A since the former midfielder took up the role and are back in the mix for a top four finish.

European silverware is also a genuine possibility for Roma, who reached the semi-final of the Europa League after doing the double over AC Milan. After winning the first leg 1-0 in San Siro, they triumphed 2-1 at home for a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Roma have also done well at the Stadio Olimpico, winning five of their last six Serie A home matches. They claimed a 1-0 home victory over bitter rivals Lazio in their previous Serie A fixture.

Bologna have been the surprise team in Serie A this season and are showing no signs of slowing down. They currently occupy the final Champions League spot and hold a four points lead over Roma.

Thiago Motta’s men travel to San Siro unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 matches across all competitions. However, they appear to have lost their way slightly in recent weeks and head into Monday’s clash off the back of successive 0-0 draws with Frosinone and Monza.

Bologna mat have been held at struggling Frosinone recently but their away form has been decent. They are unbeaten in their last five matches on the road, claiming three wins in that run, including a 2-1 victory over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

How the bookies view it

Roma have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 7/5 by bet365 to claim the win. A victory for Bologna is valued at 9/4 with 10bet while a draw is set at odds of 21/10 by William Hill.

Head to head

Roma have a 25-10 advantage with 13 draws from 48 previous matches against Bologna. Although Bologna claimed a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in December, recent meetings have been evenly split with three wins each and two draws from the last eight matches.

Players to watch

Paulo Dybala is often involved in most of Roma’s attacking plays and will be the one to watch on Monday. The forward has 12 Serie A goals and is priced at 3/1 by bet365 to score anytime.

Bologna also have attacking quality of their own with Riccardo Orsolinni and Joshua Zirkzee scoring 10 Serie A goals each. Orsolinni is priced at 3/1 with Paddy Power to score anytime while William Hill is offering 27/20 on Zirkzee in the same market.

Anything else catch the eye?

Given the attacking quality on display, both teams could be backed to score at evens with bet365. Roma saw over 2.5 goals in their previous home fixture and a repeat is priced at 7/5 with Unibet, who is also offering 15/4 for both over 3.5 goals.

A tight opening is expected on Monday, which means the second half could be backed to produce more goals at 6/5 with Paddy Power.
