Georgia will look to qualify for their first ever major tournament as they welcome Euro 2004 winners Greece to the capital Tbilisi in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Georgia finished 4th in their qualifying group but a strong showing in the Nations League meant that they got a second chance of attempting to qualify for their maiden major tournament. Willy Sagnol’s hosts kept those hopes alive on Thursday as they defeated 10-man Luxembourg 2-0, meaning they have lost just one of their five qualifiers on home soil (W2-D2-L1), with that being that heavy 1-7 loss to Spain.
It came as no real surprise to see France and The Netherlands finish in the top two spots in Group B, with Greece finishing in 3rd place after doing the double over both Ireland and minnows Gibraltar, as well as claiming a credible 2-2 draw at home to France. Gus Poyet’s visitors also got a second chance for qualification due to their Nations League showing, and emphatically sealed their place in this playoff final by defeating Kazakhstan 5-0 in the Greek capital.
