HIBERNIAN will be looking to halt a four-game winless run in the Scottish Premiership when they come up against Ross County at Easter Road on Tuesday night.
Nick Montgomery’s tenure got off to a pretty promising start, however the the capital club have found victories hard to come by during the month of October.
Having said all of that, the Hibees should go into this game in a confident mood after holding Celtic to a spirited 0-0 draw on Saturday.
Hibs manager Montgomery will be hoping that stalemate will act as a springboard for further success when Ross County come calling this midweek.
As for the Staggies, they may be a little deflated after blowing a two-goal lead in the dying embers of what was a manic 3-3 draw with Motherwell on Saturday.
That slice of the Fir Park spoils means Malky Mackay’s men are occupying the relegation playoff spot, though they do now hold a five point buffer over basement side St Johnstone.
Outright Betting
Despite winning just one of their five Scottish Premiership home games this season, Hibernian go into this game as odds-on 8/13 (Bet 365) favourites.
Each of Ross County’s last two road games have ended all square but the same outcome here is an unfancied 3/1 (Bet 365) while the away win is trading at 9/2 (William Hill).
Betting Angles
At the best of times, Hibernian are difficult to trust at odds-on prices, so I'm going to bypass the outright betting and instead combine Over 1 Hibs Goal and Over zero Ross County Cards at 5/6 (Bet 365).
Despite languishing in eighth place, Hibs have lost just one of their last seven league games and they will have earmarked this fixture as one they can pocket three points with a view to moving up the standings.
While Hibs have blown hot and cold in recent weeks, they always carry a threat in the final-third, and that can be attributed to the fact that they have scored twice or more in six of their 10 Scottish top-flight tussles this term, a tally only topped by Celtic.
That doesn't bode well for a Ross County rearguard that have only managed to silence Dundee in their last five outings, not to mention the Staggies have shipped 10 goals across their opening five Scottish Premiership road matches of the season.
As such, I'm prepared to back Hibs to hit at least two goals on Tuesday night, but to round off the Bet Builder, I'll also throw a minimum of one Ross County card into the mix.
Malky Mackay’s men have been the most ill-disciplined side in the Scottish top-flight this term to date, averaging 3.22 yellow cards per-game, a figure that increases to a lofty 4.20 when going about their business away from their Highland headquarters.
In fact this particular Bet Builder would have proven profitable in three of County's five league games away from home this season, so I'm more than happy to support the same combination in the capital at 5/6 (Bet 365) on Tuesday night.
One player who could be worth considering to pick up a card here is Ross County's Ben Purrington at 3/1 with Bet 365.
The Staggies left-back is not exactly renowned for being card magnet but he should have his hands full here given the pace and flair that Hibs possess in wide areas.
