SlipsTips returns to share two selections from Scottish League One on Saturday, with Montrose's meeting with Edinburgh City under the microscope.
Montrose vs Edinburgh City (Saturday, 15:00)
Montrose will endeavour to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season in Scottish League One when they entertain Edinburgh City on Saturday.
The Gable Endies hit the ground running with a 3-1 at Annan on the opening day before coming up short against both Cove Rangers and Hamilton in the fixtures that followed.
However, Stuart Petrie’s side have since picked up an eye-catching 3-2 win at Queen of the South, and last Saturday’s 2-0 Challenge Cup success at Cove Rangers will have further heightened confidence in the Links Park camp.
As for Edinburgh City, they have made a miserable start to the new campaign, losing each of their opening five league games of the season, leaking 11 goals in the process.
The money has started to come for Montrose who have been clipped into general 7/10 shots, however we can back the home team at 19/20 (Bet 365) with a -0.75 start on the Asian Handicap and that looks like an enticing boost in price.
This selection would provide a full pay-out if Montrose triumph by two goals or more, with a half-stakes winner banked if the hosts win the game by a one-goal margin.
As already alluded to, Montrose appear to be moving in the right direction and they will be quietly confident of putting another three points on the board at the expense of an Edinburgh side that have been in wretched form of late.
Not only have Alan Maybury’s men fallen to defeat in each of their opening five league games of the season, but they also lost all four of their League Cup group games, not to mention they were eviscerated 4-1 when hosting Lowland League leaders East Kilbride in the SPFL Trust Trophy last time out.
That sobering setback also means that the capital club have conceded two or more goals in nine of their 10 outings this term, which does not bode well ahead of the long trip to Angus this weekend.
With all that in mind, coupled with Montrose’s recent upturn in form, backing the Gable Endies to overcome a -0.75 hurdle on the Asian Handicap at 19/20 (Bet 365) holds plenty of appeal.
I’m also going to head to the anytime goalscorer market and back Montrose striker Kane Hester to get on the scoresheet at 6/5 with McBookie.
To date, Hester hasn't quite lived up to expectations after being signed for club record fee in the summer, but he did bag a goal against Cove last weekend, and a visit from out-of-sorts Edinburgh City represents a good opportunity for the prolific frontman to add to his tally.
