Premier League football arrives at Kenilworth Road for the first time tonight as Luton Town welcome West Ham.
David Moyes’ men can go top of the table with a win after a fine start to the season which has seen them win against Chelsea and at a much-lauded Brighton.
It’s exciting times for the Hammers who will learn their Europa League opponents today following their Europa Conference League success last season and Moyes appears to have recruited well after the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.
James Ward-Prowse got off the mark last week, Michail Antonio has scored two and Jared Bowen will be aiming to score in his third consecutive away match, so there’s plenty of firepower at Moyes’ disposal.
That should help them to victory over the Premier League new boys who have yet to get to put any points on the board after two defeats away from home.
Mandatory improvements to their stadium meant they had to postpone their first scheduled home match against Burnley but the signs aren’t good after shipping seven goals in defeats at Brighton and Chelsea. It could be a long season for Rob Edwards’ side.
The West Ham win pays 3/4 but slightly better priced is two or more goals for the visitors at 5/6.

Well done all winners
My football plays today & some good prices at William Hill especially.
Roma v AC Milan
This price at William Hill is miles better than anyway else. For the same at Bet365 the odds are set at 1.36 & 1.66 and close to this elsewhere. Roma have started the season poorly with just 1 point from the opening 2 games meaning there will be more pressure on them tonight. They have however registered 10 shots on target with opponents 5. AC Milan have started the season on fire with 2 wins and scoring 6 goals. They have also had 13 shots on target with opponents 6. I can see a decent game here especially as in the last 6 head to heads both sides have scored. Based on how good the price is at William Hill I have to make a play on this.
Over 6 Match shots on target @ 1.85 William Hill (NB)
Over 7 Match shots on target @ 2.70 William Hill
Luton vs West Ham
First home game of the season for Luton and the atmosphere at Kenilworth Road is bound to be electric. I really like the look of Luton tonight to register a decent number of shots. So far against Brighton they registered 9 and then 11 against Chelsea. Both were of course away from home but they gave a good account of themselves. West Hams opponents have also so far had 14, 17 & 26 attempts at goal, A player I will also back is Carlton Morris. So far this season he has registered 7 shots & this bet would have landed in both. If Luton do go over double figures in shots it is likely this man will be heavily involved.
The shot angle I am taking is Luton to register Over 11 and Over 12 shots. The same odds at Bet365 are 1.57 & 1.83. Along with Carlton Morris to have Over 2 shots which is as low as 1.20 at Skybet. All of these are significantly higher at William Hill again.
Luton Over 11 Shots @ 1.85 William Hill (NAP)
Luton Over 12 Shots @ 2.45 William Hill
Carlton Morris Over 2 Shots @ 2.25 William Hill
Dortmund vs Heidenheim
The final football selection of the day heads over to Germany. Dortmund are expected to win this one comfortably against newly promoted Heidenheim but an angle I will be taking is with the away side. Despite losing both of their opening 2 games Heidenheim have registered 13 attempts away to Wolfsburg and 19 at home to Hoffenheim. Dortmund have not been totally convincing so far with a 1-0 home win against Koln, who had 11 attempts and then drew 1-1 away to Bochum last weekend who had 17 attempts. I still expect Dortmund to win this one which will actually help with this selection given that Heidenheim will then have to be more adventurous. Skybet go 1.50 on this and Paddy Power 1.25 so I feel this is a great price at Bet365.
Heidenheim over 8.5 Total Shots @ 2.20 Bet365
Best of luck all
Morning MJT, where is the ‘shots on target’ tab on William Hill. I cant’ seem to locate it. Thank you.
It’s under the Stats tab at William Hill. If you scroll down to the bottom you will see “Total Match Shots on Target” for the 1st selection and for the second it is “Luton Total Match Shots”.
Cheers for all your info. 👍
Thank you for the tip on the tabs :)
The prices on the Roma vs AC Milan selection have now gone at William Hill. Down to 1.61 over 7 to match everywhere else.

My plays from the early matches today at the US Open:
Paul vs Davidovich Fokina
Paul Over 4.5 Breaks of Serve @ 2.0 Bet365 (NAP)
Really like this play as I am expecting a fair number of breaks in this match given how both players play. I am expecting Paul to win but it has the potential to be close. 2 previous head to head matches both going to Paul this year. At the Aussie open he win in a 5 set epic. During that match Paul managed 7 breaks of serve. He then won 6-3 7-5 in Miami with 4 breaks. Even if Paul manages to win this in 3 sets I can still see him getting the 5 breaks. I also cannot see him not winning at least a set or 2 in this as he is the better player overall.
Ostapenko vs Pera
Pera Over 8.5 Games @ 1.90 Bet365
Pera to win @ 4.50 William Hill
I backed Ostapenko last game & she blew a 6-3 5-2 lead just about winning 7-5 in the 3rd. As I mentioned in that write up there is always a risk with how erratic she plays. I feel Pera has a great shot in this. Ostapenko hit a massive 80 unforced errors in her last win. She regularly has moments in matches were she just completely loses control & gifts away games which was in full effect in the last round. Pera will be fully motivated & have the crowd right behind her in this. I was tempted by her to just win a set but the over 8.5 games would also cover the possible loss in 2 tight sets in case there is a 7-5 or 7-6 set scoreline. So I have opted for this instead at slightly lower odds. I will also have a small play on her to win outright.
Shelton vs Karatsev
Over 39.5 Games @ 1.89 Pinnacle
Both of these players are quite erratic with Karatsev in particular very unpredictable at the best of times. However, he does have a better return game than Shelton although Shelton does have the better out wide lefty serve. Either way I am expecting 4/5 sets in this one. Especially with the ups and downs likely from both players throughout the match. I do think Shelton may edge it but I worry that if the hard hitting of Karatsev is even slightly consistent he may over power him. Can also see a tie break in this which will help the over games.
Zhang vs Hijikata
Zhang Over 4.5 Breaks of Serve @ 2.0 Bet365
I do think Zhang will win this one but I do always worry about him as favourite. He is a great underdog bet but he is still a little too inconsistent to be fully confident on. I have instead opted for breaks of serve market again which is rare for me in men’s tennis. Hijikata is not the best of servers despite how good his stats looked like match. That was a complete write off given Fucsovics was injured & put in so little effort. His previous match against Kotov saw him being broken 7 times despite him winning in 4 sets. Kotov has a similar power game to Zhang so I can see a similar scenario here with Hijikata struggling on serve. However, Zhang does also have moments where he goes completely off the boil with how he plays his brand of no nonsense hard hitting tennis. So there is every chance that Hijikata can get some breaks himself to keep some sets close & a better chance of Zhang hitting the overs. Just the 1 previous head to head which was earlier this year. Zhang won that 6-7 6-3 6-4. He managed to convert on 4/11 break points.
I may have another play or 2 in the later matches.

Long shot: add over 1.5 goals in Roma-AC Milan match
Quick Question…
Putting aside ‘Shots on Target’…Can someone please tell me what qualifies as a ‘Shot’, as far as a bookie is concerned?…
It depends what size bet you have kf, if it’s a big bet then they will decide hat counts as a shot. (joking)
Okay kf, here goes from OPTA – and both parts need to be quoted – Shots on Target & Shots off Target:
“A shot on target is defined as any goal attempt that:
• Goes into the net regardless of intent – For Goals only.
• Is a clear attempt to score that would have gone into the net but for being saved by the goalkeeper or is stopped by a player who is the last-man with the goalkeeper having no chance of preventing the goal (last line block).
Shots directly hitting the frame of the goal are not counted as shots on target, unless the ball goes in and is awarded as a goal. Shots blocked by another player, who is not the last-man, are not counted as shots on target.”
and
“A shot off target is defined as any clear attempt to score that:
• Goes over or wide of the goal without making contact with another player.
• Would have gone over or wide of the goal but for being stopped by a goalkeeper’s save or by an outfield player.
• Directly hits the frame of the goal and a goal is not scored.
Blocked shots are not counted as shots off target.”
So, the total of Shots = Shots on Target + Shots off target.
Thanks for taking the time to do that Chris. Much appreciated mate and certainly gives me a better understanding than before
