brazil football

Brazil may be the land of football but its national team has been struggling in the last couple of decades. With the next Word Cup coming in 2026, it will be 24 years since this country won the World Cup

That was a long time ago, back in 2002, in Korea and Japan, at the time when legends like Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Cafu and Roberto Carlos were still on the pitch.

However, these players have been retired for a long time and their successors were never able to fill their shoes, despite numerous world-class players in the squad.

What troubles Brazilian football fans even more is the fact that their team didn’t perform well in any of the following World Cup tournaments.

In most cases, Seleção finished their journey in the quarter-finals, while even the fourth place in 2014 was overshadowed by a humiliating 7-1 defeat from Germany. For more than two decades, this county never got close to winning the tournament again, despite they were always in the group of biggest favorites.

With the squad crowded with superstars, most international experts think that coaches have been the weakest link in the Brazilian chain, so rumors about appointing a foreign coach became a common thing.

Foreign Coach Taboo is Gone

For a long time, Brazilians were too proud and stubborn to accept reality. Although this country is still the largest nursery garden of talents in the world, the lag between European and South American football quality is getting bigger and bigger at the club level.

Money is probably the biggest reason why Brazilian and Argentinian clubs aren’t on par with European major clubs anymore.

There are not enough resources to keep up with all the changes that have happened in the last few decades and boy, they are huge.

Football isn’t the same game it was just a decade ago and that particularly refers to the tactics and team management. For that reason, it looks like Brazilian coaches simply can’t follow the latest trends, and that also reflects in way of the National team has been playing in the last couple of tournaments.

Everyone can see that Brazil plays outdated football these days and that it mostly relies on individual talent. That’s why it’s time for fresh, international blood, and we are pretty sure that in such a scenario, the coach would come from Europe.

Joachim Löw Is The Latest Name on the List of Candidates

So far, we have heard many names of potential candidates, known, and we have no doubt that the Seleção has super high standards and that only major names can be taken in conversation.

Joachim Löw is now one of the freshest names on the list and we see him as one of the best candidates for the job.

Namely, although there might be some bigger coaching names on the list of candidates, none of them has such an impressive pedigree on the international level.

Most other candidates earned their reputation at the club level and that’s still a little bit different thing from international football.

On the other hand, Joachim Löw spent most of his career in international football. His career started in 2004 in the position of assistant manager, but just two years later, he became the head coach of the German national team.

He stayed in this position for a full 15 years and accomplished some pretty impressive things, including winning the 2014 World Cup Tournament in Brazil by humiliating Seleção in the semi-finals 7-1.

Unfortunately, the last couple of tournaments weren’t particularly successful for the German national team, so Löw finally resigned in 2021. Since then, he’s been without a job.

On the other hand, the Brazilian team was led by Tite since 2016, which was also a pretty long period. During that campaign, the Brazilian manager won the 2019 Cop America but the World Cup, as we already mentioned, remained out of reach. Tite announced that he will resign after the 2022 World Cup, no matter the result, despite he was very respected in Brazil.

According to sources from Apostaconfiavel and The Sun, the odds of Joachim Löv becoming the next head coach varies from 9x-12x at the largest betting agencies in Brazil.

What About Other Candidates?

As you may presume, Joachim Löw isn’t the only potential candidate that could get this super-attractive job. There are many more big names in Brazilian and International media, including Carlo Ancelotti, which is considered the biggest favorite for the job.

The Italian coach is widely considered one of the best managers in the modern history of football, with coaching several major European teams in the last 25 years, including Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, and Real Madrid. Moreover, he won multiple Champions Leagues with Milan and Real Madrid, and is also the only manager who won titles in every of the five European major leagues.

The 63-old coach is currently appointed in Real Madrid and already stated that this will be his last job, at least in club football.

Two more word-class managers are seen as candidates. Rumors about Pep Guardiola taking Seleção have been circulating for years and we are pretty sure that things will be much clearer after the end of this season’s Champions League, as Manchester City’s manager is still desperately chasing this trophy.

In the case that Citizens win it, we presume that Guardiola’s mission in Manchester could easily end this summer and Brazil might be the next station.

Finally, there is Jose Mourinho, the old fox that is currently at AS Roma. Although his club career has been going down in the last couple of years, many believe that the Portuguese coach still has a lot to give to football, especially at the international level.

Brazil might be his next station, or we could see him taking over his national team in the near future.

Some sources also suggest Thomas Tuchel. The German coach proved himself as an excellent tactician and a coach that knows who to deal with starts.

We believe that he is still young to give up on club football and that, instead of taking over a national team, he is rather looking at some of the major European clubs as the next step of his career.

Also, a few more domestic coaches pop up in the Brazilian median here and then, names like Fernando Diniz, Dorival Júnior and Renato Gaucho.
