RANGERS get back to action after the international week in what looks to be a forlorn attempt of clinging onto the coattails of leaders Celtic when they welcome Dundee United to Ibrox.
Michael Beale's side's recent form would have been title-winning in any other league in the world having won 11 of their last 12 in all competitions.
But that one defeat came against Celtic in the League Cup Final and unfortunately for Rangers, they have been even more relentless in the league and that nine-point gap has stayed that way for months now. They are also trailing by 27 in goal difference so that's effectively ten.
They face a United side under new management and fighting for Premiership survival and there have been marginal signs of improvement under the former Aberdeen flop boss Jim Goodwin.
Since his former club defeated him in his opening game, United have claimed two important points at Livingston and at St Mirren and VAR controversy perhaps cost them all three against another of Goodwin's former clubs.
But previous to that they lost seven in a row in all competitions and also have the worst defence in the league having conceded 54 goals in 29 games this season.
How the bookies view it
As the usual Old Firm v the rest mismatch. Rangers are 1/8 with McBookie.com and United can be backed at a massive 28/1 with Coral and the draw is 48/5 with SBK.
Recent head to heads
Rangers have won both meetings this season although only by 2-1 at Ibrox and 2-0 at Tannadice.Last season, United beat them and drew with them.
The hosts have won the last five meetings at Ibrox.
Players to watch
Fashion Sakala has been in decent form for Rangers recently and has now scored three goals in his last four games. He is 19/13 to score any time with SBK.
Former Scotland star Steven Fletcher will be United'a main attacking outlet and the veteran hitman is 11/2 to score with bet365.
Anything else catch the eye?
Jim Goodwin took his Aberdeen side to Ibrox this season, had a go and were destroyed. You would think his only option is to park the bus, but frankly, United's defence aren't good enough to do that and it looks a case of how many for a Rangers side who should run over the top of them.
Historically, United usually cause problems for Rangers, but the hosts should be far too strong here and the -2 price of 6/5 from Paddy Power definitely attracts.
Rangers to win both halves at 21/20 with William Hill looks a decent shout too as they have been criticised in the past for easing off once ahead and Beale has said he would work on that.
It really wouldn't be a surprise if it clicked for Rangers here and the 9/2 for them to score over four goals with Paddy Power absolutely has a chance – remember the gap between the Old Firm and the rest has never been bigger.
