Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United

, KO: 16:30 Feb 19, 2023, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
West Ham United

TWO London rivals with very different Premier League priorities square off on Sunday as Tottenham Hotspur play host to West Ham United.

Spurs' general inconsistency this season means they start the weekend in fifth place, two points behind Newcastle in the race for Champions League qualification.

In fact, Tottenham's past fortnight almost typifies their season, having toppled Man City at home before being trounced 4-1 at Leicester last weekend.

Antonio Conte's side have since lost 1-0 to AC Milan in the opening leg of their Champions League last 16 tie so they will be desperate to arrest their slide when old foes West Ham come calling.

After ending 2022 in freefall, David Moyes' has steadied the ship at the London Stadium, with the Hammers avoiding defeat in six of their last seven games in all competitions, the most recent of which was a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Despite their mini revival of late, West Ham remain just two points above the relegation zone and have not tasted top-flight success on the road in nine outings.

Outright Betting

Despite losing four of their last six Premier League home games, Tottenham head into this all-London affair as 5/6 (Bet 365) favourites.

August's reverse fixture ended all square and the same outcome here can be backed at 29/10 (UniBet) while a West Ham win has been chalked up at 10/3 (Bet 365).

Betting Angles

While Tottenham have blown hot and cold this season, I'm prepared to back the home team to prevail here at the above-mentioned 5/6 (Bet 365) price.

Despite their downturn in form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in recent months, Antonio Conte's side have done the majority of their best work in front of their own supporters this season, winning seven of their 11 Premier League home games to date.

That doesn't augur well for a West Ham team that are suffering from long-term bout travel sickness in the top flight, with their only away win this season coming way back in August against Aston Villa.

In fact, the Hammers have claimed top honours in only four of their last 25 Premier League matches away from their Stratford base, with two of those victories coming against teams that were relegated last season.

To make matters worse, West Ham have had a pretty shoddy time of it under David Moyes when going away to the Premier League's traditional big six, having  picked up a paltry four points from a pssoible 78.

With all that in mind, coupled with the fact that the visitors have filed just four clean sheets across their 22 league games this season so far, I suspect Tottenham's superior quality should be enough to give them the win on Sunday at 5/6 (Bet 365).

Despite failing to deliver for me in each of his last two outings, I'm still prepared to back Harry Kane to get on the scoresheet here at 13/10 (UniBet).

When you consider only Erling Haaland has outscored the England skipper in the Premier League this season, Kane is just too big to ignore at 13/10 (UniBet).
