TWO Premier League teams who suffered contrasting fortunes last time out lock horns on Wednesday night, as Crystal Palace welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Selhurst Park.
Patrick Viera's side resumed their top-flight campaign following the World Cup break with a 3-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Boxing Day.
However, the Eagles bounced back from that setback at the first time of asking by bagging a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on New Year's Eve.
Palace chief Viera will be hoping that south coast success will act as a springboard for further improvement ahead of a midweek meeting with London neighbours Tottenham.
After an encouraging start to the season, it would be fair to say some of Spurs' recent performances have made for uninspiring viewing, the most recent of which was a 2-0 reverse at home to Aston Villa.
That latest setback means Antonio Conte's side have fallen out of the top-four, so the Italian will demand an immediate response when his team make the short trip across town on Wednesday night.
Outright Betting
Crystal Palace claimed top honours in last season's corresponding fixture but the same outcome here is an unfancied 11/5 (William Hill) while the draw is also deemed unlikely at 12/5 (William Hill) with the same firm.
Tottenham Hotspur, who have failed to triumph in three London derby road trips this term to date, head to South London as 6/5 (Bet 365) favourites.
Betting Angles
There isn't a huge amount of appeal in the 1×2 market here but backing Both Teams to Score looks like an eye-catching alternative at 4/5 with SBK.
Goals have been a regular feature in Crystal Palace home games this season, with the Eagles scoring in seven of their eight assignments in front of their own supporters, not to mention they have failed to file a clean sheet on seven occasions.
Furthermore, Both Teams to Score backers have been rewarded in five of Palace's eight Selhurst Park outings so far, and I see no reason to oppose a repeat here against a Spurs side that are leaking goals at an alarming rate.
Antonio Conte's side have failed to shut out their opponents in each of their last even top-flight fixtures, conceding two or more goals in each of those contests.
It's also worth noting that BTTS banked in five matches from that sample, with the same play delivering profit in 11 of the Lilywhites' overall 17 league games this season so far.
What's more Both Teams to Score has been a winning selection in 19 of the pair's 33 (57.57%) combined Premier League fixtures this season so far, yet the odds imply a 55.6% chance of the same wager copping on Wednesday night.
Given that this is an all-London affair, I'll also head to the player card market and take Cristian Romero to receive a booking at 11/5 (Bet 365).
The World Cup winner is no stranger to referees' notebooks and he looks a fair bet to have his name taken here given that he could he handed the thankless task of trying to tame Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha – the most fouled player in Premier League history
