ARSENAL will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the English Premier League table when they take on Newcastle United at the Emirates on Tuesday night.
Mikel Arteta's men ended 2022 with a seven-point lead at the summit following a frantic 4-2 win at Brighton on New Year's Eve, on an evening where I delivered a clean sweep of winners at the Amex.
That triumph coupled with Manchester City's shock 1-1 draw at home to Everton was further proof that the Gunners are the real deal in their quest for a first English crown since 2004.
With fixtures coming thick and fast, Arsenal face another test of their title mettle, as well as the chance to extend their advantage at the top of the tree, at least temporarily, when Newcastle United come to town.
The third-placed Magpies are having a season to remember, although they will have been slightly disappointed to have ended 2022 with a laboured 0- 0 draw at home to Leeds United.
However, in doing so, Eddie Howe's side extended their unbeaten in all competitions to 14 matches, so they certainly won't be fazed by the task in hand on Tuesday night.
Outright Betting
Arsenal, who hold the only remaining 100% Premier League home record this season, enter their latest Emirates assignment as 5/6 favourites with SBK.
Despite losing just once in the Premier League this season, Newcastle make the trip south as 10/3 (Bet 365) underdogs while a share of the spoils in the capital can be backed at 14/5 (Bet 365).
Betting Angles
Arsenal will have their backers at 5/6 (SBK) given their flawless home form but I'm happy to opt for another Bet Builder by throwing together Arsenal to Score, Over 3 Arsenal Corners and Over 2 Match Cards at 20/21 (Bet 365).
Following their 4-1 win at Brighton, the Gunners remain the only team in the top-flight to have scored in all of their games this season so far, and I'm prepared to back them to maintain that record against what is a rigid Newcastle rearguard.
While the Magpies boast the best defensive record in the Premier League this term to date, they have conceded a goal in five of their eight road trips, including five of their last seven.
As such, I'll back the league leaders to strike on Tuesday night, and given that Mikel Arteta's men may have to adopt a patient approach here, I'll also go with at least four Arsenal corners – a line the North Londoners have cleared in 14 of their l6 Premier League matches this season thus far.
With a closely-fought contest anticipated between two of the league's in-form sides, I'll conclude the 20/21 (Bet 365) Bet Builder with a minimum of three match cards.
While referee Andy Madley is not exactly renowned for being card-happy, he is averaging three cars per-game in the Premier League this season, dishing out 4+ in each his last four outings, and he should be kept busy here in what promises to be a tasty televised tussle under the Emirates lights.
One player who could be worth considering for a caution is Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier who has been priced up at 11/2 (PaddyPower) to go into the referee's notebook.
The former Tottenham man has has been booked in four of his 17 Premier League appearances this season and he looks worthy of some interest to add to that tally here given that his direct opponent is likely to be Gabriel Martinelli
