Hickory was a winner as the sole selection of Wednesday. I thought he would be too good and on a good handicap mark, and his performance justified that.
I think the opposition he beat was there to be beaten, so I wouldn't get carried away too much with his performance. Me and Cairnzy have spoken about this horse and Cairnzy seems to really like him and believes he's a 90-100 rated horse. I think he could be better over shorter than 7f, and I'll keep an eye out for his progress.
Ffos Las 12:38
MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE was well fancied to win last time out at Taunton, there was a lot of early money on him and he eventually won at 5/2F. I imagine you would have gotten some decent in-play odds as he was off the bridle sooner than a few of the others and he had to make up some decent ground to win, but when he did hit top gear he stayed on powerfully and it was a good performance on the whole.
I think the extra furlong he faces today will be up his street based on that recent run where he stayed on well and hit the finishing line hard. That was his first run of the season, on the back of a 245-day absence so his fitness will more than likely be better this time around. The recent 5lb rise in the weights will make his life more difficult in this race as it does look more competitive with the Evan Williams horse and Tim Vaughan horse looking like the main dangers, but I was impressed with the finishing part of his recent race and as a result, I think he is more than capable of progressing again.
Finn Lambert retains the ride and in a conditionals jockey only race where he claims 6lb, that seems like daylight robbery as he seems a very good rider who knows what he is doing.
Southwell 3:33
Arguably, this selection is the riskier one as he has a constant obsession with starting his races extremely slow, but I do believe off his current handicap mark KITTEN'S DREAM is more than capable of winning a race of this nature.
I caught his most recent run when finishing second at Southwell. If he jumped out the gates on terms, then chances are he probably would've won, but he didn't and he lost 5 lengths or maybe more at the beginning of the race and that meant he had to sit towards the rear. However, he made up some very good ground and stayed on powerfully to finish as runner-up. Today they try him over the extended 2m trip, which is surely going to suit him better, especially if he starts slow as it should allow him further time to get to the ones ahead of him.
He has run over this trip before and the slow starts have costed him, but at Southwell, I think this track will suit him better over this trip. It's not like your usual Wolverhampton/Lingfield/Chelmsford AW track where the final straight is short, this straight at Southwell is around 3f long and that should allow him to have enough time to bridge the gap.
A mark of 61, which is effectively 56 makes him somewhat well-handicapped on older pieces of form as he has won off 59 x2 and 63, 70.
Got Bright 3.33 Southwell @ 33s for top 4 finish

Ffos Las is abandoned, fair enough. But it’s annoying when my other selection at Southwell is now a NR and the meeting goes ahead.

Another Dimension
if they ever start !!!
They are saying that“Due to the extreme cold, the stalls are unserviceable” The fact the stalls can’t be used due to the cold would suggest that the track isn’t gonna be safe either!
