Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the next phase of the UEFA Champions League when they host Marseille in Group D on Wednesday.
Having won the Europa League last season, Frankfurt have found the step up to the Champions League tough. They have claimed just one win in the competition and are rooted to the bottom of the group.
The good news for Frankfurt is that Group D remains one of the most open in this year’s Champions League with all four teams still in with a chance of progressing. Oliver Glasner’s men are just three points off the pace and can even finish top of the group if results go their way in the final two matchdays.
Eintracht Frankfurt will be feeling confident heading into Wednesday’s clash having won their last three matches. They claimed a 3-1 victory at Borussia Monchengladbach in a Bundesliga fixture last Saturday with Jesper Lindstrom netting a brace while Eric Ebimbe was also on target.
Marseille are currently second in Group D, just one point off the pace after claiming two wins and as many draws from their four Champions League matches. They earned a 2-0 win at Sporting Lisbon in their previous fixture in the competition with Matteo Guendouzi and Alexis Sanchez getting the goals.
However, things have gone slightly poor for Marseille in recent weeks with three defeats in their last four matches across all competitions. They travel to Frankfurt off the back of a 1-0 home defeat by Lens in Ligue 1 last Saturday.
Marseille have also been inconsistent on their recent travels with two wins and as many defeats in their last four way matches across all competitions. Igor Tudor’s men were beaten 1-0 by PSG in their previous fixture on the road.
