With Al Roc becoming a non-runner, I left just Who Is That being the sole runner of the day. He didn't win and did nothing wrong to deserve to lose, but he was just beaten by a better horse on the day and when that happens there's nothing to cry about.
Who Is That jumped perfectly all race apart from maybe the first two fences, where he was slightly untidy but was hindered on the second fence. Other than that he was foot perfect and jumped much better than the winner who was scruffy at quite a few of his fences but he had the better engine and had more class than my selection. I think he'll be able to win a race again if his handicap mark remains unaltered, and if that's the case I'd be inclined to back him again.
Exeter 1:15
With the jumps season now officially underway it's disappointing to see three-runner races like this opener at Exeter. Trainers cannot be moaning about prize money in this country when they're not prepared to race their horses! £10,500 goes to the winner for this Class 3 contest yet only three are going to turn, and that's if there are no non-runners which is never a certainty in this game.
For me, I think JERSEY WONDER should be the one to beat in this, and I can see why he's not the favourite as his form figures compared to the others in this race aren't as appealing, but back to Exeter and back off a handicap mark of 120 makes him a good bet.
I feel like a small field where he could dictate the race, on fast ground and back on a winning mark give him a very good chance in this. He has previously won at Exeter off a mark of 120 where he managed to dictate the pace in a four-runner race, so there's no reason why they wouldn't try the same thing today. Usual rider Johnny Burke has been replaced by 7lb claimer Miss Victoria Malzard, who some of you might recognise for her rides on jumps veteran, Kansas City Chief, who has been a winning tip for me previously and has run some belters at Cheltenham. Victoria has given Kansas some great front-running rides in recent times, so she knows what she's doing when on a front runner, so it seems a good jockey booking to me, especially considering she takes off 7lbs, which now makes Jersey Wonder very well-handicapped (effectively running off 113).
As for the others in this race. Presenting Yeats is the current market favourite, trading at odds-on, which seems ludicrous to me. He has won a few races over hurdles over the last couple of years, but running off a career-high mark of 109 he has to put in a career-best to win this, even though it is a three-runner race. He can be lazy and run in snatches, and in a race which could be tactical, he is definitely worth taking on. Honor Grey reacted well to the application of blinkers last season and is probably on a good enough mark to win but has to prove his fitness from 166 days off the track, so is worth siding against.
Exeter 3:15
FORGET YOU NOT won this race 12 months ago so it's not a great surprise to see connections fancy their chances of retaining their crown and going for it once more.
He sprung a surprise when winning this race last year, winning at odds of 25/1. At the time some probably thought it was a fluke but he won with plenty of authority that day and proved it wasn't a fluke when winning at Wincanton in March of this year off a 3lb higher mark, once again winning nicely by 4.5L.
Since his most recent win at Wincanton, he has run to an okay level but hasn't set the world alight, but his best run probably came on his most recent start when finishing 3rd/9 at Stratford off a mark of 83. The form isn't outstanding by any means but it was a step in the right direction, and connections clearly thought it was time for a break after that.
He has been dropped 1lb by the handicapper, meaning he is running off a mark of 82 which is 1lb lower than his most recent win, making him dangerous to rule out. I think his trainer, Jackie Du Plessis has had this race in mind since giving him a summer break, so the time away from the track isn't a concern to me as I think she'll have him primed for this return to Exeter. He won off a longer break when winning at Wincanton earlier this year, so she is very capable of getting one ready on the back of a layoff.
Unfortunately, his odds aren't anywhere near as high as his two wins to date but I still think his price is respectable and worth a play.
Just 2 left in the opener at Exeter now rizzle ☹️.
It’s a joke Elvis, I can’t get my head around it!

Caspers Court – Exeter 1.45 – 4/1
Yesterday’s Rewired was a tad disappointing jumping slightly right throughout and then got bumped over the penultimate hurdle by the eventual winner even though I think it’s fair to say he was always going to win.
Anyways, a new day and another opportunity to find a winner and hopefully I’ve done so in the form of Caspers Court!
It’s an open looking amateur jockey race but I really fancy Caspers Court in this. He won this contest two years ago of a a 1lb higher mark and has the service of the same jockey this time out. He ran with credit in a higher class of race at Newton Abbot a few weeks ago (seasonal return) and returns today in this lower graded event.
Caspers Court will certainly have stripped a lot fitter for his last appearance and retains the cheekpieces, which have really revitalised him.
I’m 100% certain that he’ll give you a run for your money and, as confident as you can be in a race of this nature, that he will come out on top.
Hopefully he’ll make up for yesterday’s defeat 🤞
Good luck all.
