Racing tips: Newmarket Raider Farhan will love the soft ground that Hamilton has to offer

What a relief it was to get a winner at York yesterday. When you're going through a rough patch it feels like you're never going to get a change in luck, but thankfully the Last Crusade bolted up and loved the drop in trip.

One thing to note which appears to have gone unnoticed is the ride Paul Mulrennan gave Jawwaal. That was nothing short of ridiculous. He never tried to win that race, the horse was cruising and he didn't move a muscle. I know the sport is bent but what chance do we have as punters when jockey's do this kind of thing day in day out and they don't get punished.

I'm going to take a chance on a debutante in this Listed Fillies' race. Nick Bradley Racing has bought some very good 2yo's in the past couple of years, with a chunk of them coming from the Breeze-Up sales, and being bought for a cheap amount. The fact that Roger Fell is pitching SHANDY STAR into a Class 1 on racecourse debut says a lot in my opinion, and they must really like her chances. Roger has two horses in the race, the other, The Twilight Lady who has raced twice, takes her chance in this. Ben Curtis who rode The Twilight Lady on both occasions has decided to ride Shandy Star, which is a positive.

Roger Fell unleashed a Nick Bradley horse at Royal Ascot last year after the one run, which resulted in him finishing 2nd at odds of 66/1. That horse was Eldrickjones, who has a similar profile to this horse, being bought in the Breeze-Up sale for a low amount and quickly being pitched into a Class 1 race. There are obviously going to be very good horses in this and it's hard to weigh the form up, so I think this horse is worth a small EW chance that she is well above average.

I tipped up FARHAN last time out and it looked quite obvious that the run was needed that day as he didn't quite have the same zip about him around Kempton that we saw from him last year. Despite that, he still ran a big race to finish 4th, and it looked like a stiffer trip would be better for him in the future. Today he goes back up to 12f which is a positive, and the stiff uphill finish at Hamilton will extend the stamina required for this trip, which looks a positive for him. This horse handles soft ground really well, so the recent rain they've had at Hamilton is a positive. A mark of 93 is workable, so a mark of 86 with the 7lb claimer used makes him well handicapped considering he won at Doncaster off 87 at the back end of last year. John Butler normally doesn't send horses north, so the fact he's sending this one all the way to Scotland is a tip in itself. John is having a cracking time of things currently, with him operating at a 24% SR in the last 14 days and a 19% SR so far this year from 141 runners.

I'll be rooting on for Belloccio at York tomorrow, if he runs a big race that is great signs for Farhan as he was the winner in the Kempton race he contested.
