Sheffield United are set to maintain their promotion playoff push as they travel to Bristol City for a Monday night Championship fixture.
Bristol City appear have little to fight for and stand 16 points clear of the relegation zone. Nigel Pearson’s men are all but safe from the drop but are unlikely to break into the top half of the table.
With seemingly nothing to play for, Bristol City’s recent results have been mixed as they have claimed just one win from their last five Championship matches. That win came in their Good Friday fixture Stoke City which they won 1-0.
Things are not much better at home for Bristol City, who are also winless in their last four matches at Ashton Gate. However, the last two home fixtures have ended in draws as they were held 1-1 by struggling Peterborough United in their previous fixture in front of their fans.
There is no shortage of motivation for Sheffield United who are battling for a top six finish. They currently occupy the final promotion playoff spot but must be wary of Blackburn and Middlesbrough, who are waiting to capitalise on any slip-ups.
Despite having much to play for this season, Sheffield United have not been at their best, with two wins and three defeats from their last six matches. One of those defeats came in their previous fixture where they lost 2-1 at home to troubled Reading.
One of the problems for Sheffield United is a poor record on their recent travels as they have failed to secure a win in their last five away matches.
How the bookies view it
Sheffield United are considered favourites among the bookies and are priced at 17/20 by Coral to claim the win. A victory for Bristol City is valued at 17/5 by SBK, while Betfred is offering odds of 11/4 for a draw.
Recent head to head
The last eight meetings between Bristol City and Sheffield United have been evenly split at eight wins apiece. Sheffield earned a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in November with Rhian Brewster and Billy Sharp getting the goals.
Players to watch
Andreas Weimann has looked slightly off colour in recent games but remains the top scorer for Bristol City with 19 Championship goals. The attacker could be tipped to be back among the goals on Monday at 13/5 with Unibet.
Billy Sharp is also in the middle of a drought for Sheffield United but will be the one to watch on Monday having scored 14 Championship goals this season. The striker was also on target in the reverse fixture and is priced at 6/4 by bet365 to find the net.
Anything else catch the eye?
There have been goals for both teams in Bristol City’s last five home matches and given the attacking quality likely to be on display on Monday, a repeat could be considered at 13/16 with SBK. Over 2.5 goals could also be on the cards at 10/11 with bet365 while over 3.5 goals is valued at 9/4 with BetVictor.
Both teams have had some late showings lately, so the second half can be tipped as the highest scoring half at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
