Saturday's selections were disappointing to say the least. Star Academy was smashed in the betting, being backed in from 13/2 to 7/2 favourite. He jumped like a snooker table, and was very poor. Jacamar ran how he has done previously, with his jumping not being perfect, but he ran creditably, but missed out on the places by small margins.

Like I've mentioned previously, Pertemps Qualifiers aren't really my cup of tea, but if I see one which fits, I will put my money on the line. I believe there is one in this race which will actually want to win, and that horse is EMMPRESSIVE LADY. Horses who finish in the top 6 will qualify for the final race at the Cheltenham festival, but you have to be high enough in the ratings to take place. I believe that Emmpressive Lady and connections of this horse will love a day out to Cheltenham, so they will have to win this, and win well if they want a chance of going to the Festival.
There is a lot of forecast rain, and I hope it arrives, as that will make her chances so much better. Not every horse in this race will handle the conditions if the ground gets testing, and even if they do handle soft ground, they will struggle to handle the ground as well as the selection. A mark of 124 is still on the lenient side of things when you consider the form she showed a few years ago when she was a novice. She finished 2.5L behind Molly Ollys Wishes, who has since become a very classy mare over multiple trips, and is now a multiple Class 1 winner. The time before that, she beat Whitehotchillifili who is a very good yardstick.
She gets into this race carrying bottom weight, which is always a bonus, especially if the ground does get testing.

Venetia Williams doesn't have many bumper runners, but she often has a couple of classy ones each season, and I believe this lad is one of her better ones. Charlie Deutsch was asked about his best chance of the weekend and his reply was HERMES DU GOUET. That is some statement when you consider his book of rides this weekend, which included Royal Pagaille & Funambule Sivola in the Grade 2's yesterday at Newbury, with the latter winning. He believes this is an exciting young prospect and is one to follow for the future, but is clearly classy enough to win a bumper.
The forecast rain will be fine, as he showed that he handles the rain soaked ground at Haydock last time on bumper debut where he finished 2nd on heavy ground, where he was backed into 13/8F, so connections were expecting a big run that day. hopefully it rains all day at Exeter, as that will suit this horse to the ground, having the stamina to win a PTP over 3m.
Venetia continues to be in red-hot form, with another big win on a Saturday.

Strange goings on in the US of A last night! Bad jockeying and bad passage left me 1/3 in Trixie and ultimately down a few $s,the 3 were backed of the board as they say but that’s racing.
Only one from my tracker and after winning 11/17 races with 8/9 in a row at one point Beverley Park certainly one of my favourites in last few seasons.
She goes up quite a bit in grade tonight and at 4/5 and the form of the 2nd favourite im not backing her or against her. Just a watch.
