JUSTIN ROSE'S US Open win cost Ladbrokes £2million – but I was interested to read about the six punters who won 57 between them!
The Englishman was heavily backed before the tournament started at 25-1 and in-play punters had the opportunity to punt Rose as big as 66-1. However, going into the late hours of Sunday evening Rose was as short as 1-500 and was supported for total payout of 57p.
It's long odds-on (1-25) that Rose ends the year with just one Major under his belt or there's a 10-1 chance he adds another to his collection, with potential success at The Open chalked up at 20-1.
Rose's odds of picking up this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award have been slashed to 5-1 from 20-1, making him the second favourite to Andy Murray (9-4).
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Rose is a thorn in our side after the bumper payout and punters are already reinvesting their winnings for success at Muirfield in a month's time.”

Looking ahead to the Open….on bet – fair Rosie only 23s..dont waste yer money/his head will be mince for the next year with all the rigmarol that goes around winning a major. Jason Day 36s must be in with a great shout/fantastic record in the majors, Duffner at 75s good value and Oosthuizen at 70s (hed normally be about 25s at high street bookies has has probs with neck injury) but at those odds and assuming a recovery in a month hemust be worth a small dip..the old adage beware the injured golfer and already won a Open gone close in Masters. Widna waste money on Woods at 6s/no way…rough at Muirfield will kaput his chances. Scott still on high/done his work for year winning Masters again all the off course stuff in winning a major will make it unlikely he can win a second this years. For me Day has a fantastic chance/got the temperament and the experience/top 3 finished in the big ones over the last 2/3 years – gonna be punting him a fair bit over the next 4 weeks.
Guido, as you say it’s early but what about Els? Pretty good show again yesterday and could be an each-way bet for me.
Did Els speculatively last year Paul and amazed he won think he was 33s/never comtemplated him winningnuntil the last 2/3 holes!! Give ya a good run for yer money for sure. Not sure he holes enough putts to win now tho/Scott gave it to him on a plate last year. I do like Day especially and the others i mentioned. Wid love to see Phil winning an Open (and I’ll have a few quid on him)and had him and Day on last night, but you’d have to question whether his driving will be good enough at Muirfield (assuming he will need some length in the wind if it blows up)when his erratic 3 wood play didn’t exactly make u confident last night?
Guido, Mickelson missed having a driver in his bag when the wind got up and starting forcing his 3-wood. For me he doesn’t hit enough fairways to contend at Muirfield but will take much closer look nearer the start.
I had Els each way purely because the weather was bad. You can write off McIlroy and Woods if the conditions are bad- they can’t hack it. Woods is living on past glories- should be a 25/1 chance for the next one!
Betting on outright winners on these majors is becoming a lottery. Totally random winners over the past few years. Only chance is picking long shot ew value and hoping u get lucky!
The way that course was set up was just too tough. The quality players can’t open up, be aggressive and go for the pin as the consequences are too harsh so we’re basically watching to see who the best grinder is, or as the commentators put it “the best at plotting their way round the course”.
I also see the bookies are running scared of tiger but going by his form in the majors I don’t see why. Tiger has been in good form but no way does he justify 5/1 pre tourney.

1st up Bernard Tomic who is ranked 150 odd places higher than Ward and should come thru this match.
2nd up Feliciano Lopez ranked 35 against Jarkko Nieminen who is ranked 168 so a whopping 132 behind lopez
3rd up Nicholas Mahut who is a definate battler (just ask John Isner) who is ranked a hefty 150 odd below Ricardas Berankis on 67 but Mahut has a penchant for grass and he serves and volleys with the best of them so i reckon he will win his match.
4th up Stanislas Warinka Ranked No 10 against Igor Sijsling ranked 59 who actually prefers grass but i am looking at this from a ranking point of view and hopefully Warinka will justify his No 10 ranking and his extra experience come into play here this one has a slight doubt in my mind but leave it out if you just prefer the treble compared to a 4 fold.

I think Nieminen looks better value at 7/4, Lopez more suited to clay. Talked myself out of big Stan but now reading the piece there think i will be on him too.
U may be right m8 about nieminen as Lopez probably being a Spaniard prefers anything but grass but the ranking swayed me here as well.
The 4 fold pays 4.7 or so and that will hopefully romp in :-)

Im with you on betting Jason Day. The guy has defo got a major in him, and he seems to thrive come major time!!! 33/1 is good value even for a meaty e/w punt!
kev, people will be shocked but at the moments my thoughts are Nadal at 3/1. Cannot fault that value. Will do reasoning and big article just before it pal need a better look at the run in first and the draw pal
