Ferencvaros host Real Betis in their second UEFA Europa League Group G fixture at the Groupama Arena. The Hungarians have been regulars in Europe but are yet to make any real impact and are likely to find things difficult against an experienced Betis side.
Ferencvaros suffered a 2-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen last time out in the Europa League. They took an early lead through Ryan Mmaee but ultimately succumbed to the superior quality of the German team.
As expected Ferencvaros are having a solid campaign in the Hungarian League and sit second on the table. Peter Stoger’s men have won their last three matches and claimed a 3-1 victory over Ujpest last Sunday.
However, the problem for Ferencvaros is an inability to translate their domestic form into continental competition. They are currently on a four-match losing run in Europe, including three straight defeats in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers before crashing to the Europa League.
Real Betis began their campaign in the Europa League with a 4-3 home victory over Celtic. They fought back from two goals down with Juanmi netting a brace while Juan Miranda and Borja Iglesias were also on target.
After a slow start to the season, Real Betis appear to be hitting their stride in recent weeks and are unbeaten in their last five matches. Manuel Pellegrini’s men have claimed three wins in that run, including a 2-0 victory over Getafe in a Spanish La Liga fixture last Sunday.
Real Betis have impressed going forward, scoring two or more goals in each of their last five matches. They remain vulnerable in defence and have kept just one clean sheet across all competitions this season.
