Race in Focus – 4:50 Newcastle
BENEFICIAL REFORM was a dual winner at Doncaster last season over this trip. Good third in first-time cheekpieces there last time and not dismissed.
Douglas Julian is an all-or-nothing chaser who posted a career-best when scoring at Kelso (23f) in December. One of his lesser efforts here last time.
Railway Dillon, last of three chase wins gained off 10 lb higher at Perth (3m) a year ago. Good second here last time and the stiffer the test the better.
Zitenka posted a career-best when landing a 2½m Market Rasen handicap 10 months ago. Dropped to a tempting mark after a series of lesser efforts but leap of faith needed to think he will suddenly bounce back.
Billy Cuckoo has had a productive spell over fences this term, winning three times (all around 2½m). Found the Topham all too much last time and this is easier.
You Know Yourself won at Carlisle (3m) a year ago. Back to that mark but let down by jumping of late and needs to bounce back.
Dun Masc was blinkered when landing 21f Downpatrck handicap chase a year ago. Not disgraced in two runs for new yard this term and not had much racing at this sort of trip so can have a case made for him.
Call Me Mulligan proved better than ever when gaining second hunter win at Cartmel (3¼m) last summer. Should be all the better for his two comeback runs and edging down the weights. Headgear back on.
1. Beneficial Reform
2. Railway Dillon
3. Billy Cuckoo
VERDICT: Beneficial Reform ran well at Doncaster last time and can bounce back to winning ways. Railway Dillon and Billy Cuckoo look dangers.
