The top two in the French Ligue 1 go head-to-head as leaders PSG host second-place Lille at the Parc des Princes. Lille will have revenge on their minds for their Coupe de France exit but the Parisians appear to be returning to their best form and should pick up the points.
PSG reclaimed top spot in Ligue 1 thanks to a 4-2 victory in Lyon prior to the international break. They were buzzing all through the contest and took a four-goal lead thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappe and efforts from Danilo Pereira and Angel Di Maria before Lyon struck twice late on.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be keen to return to winning ways at the Parc des Princes following a run of two straight defeats. They still boast a solid home record with six wins in their last eight matches and can open up a three-point lead at the top of the table with another victory on Saturday.
PSG have been resurgent in recent weeks and head into Saturday’s clash with three wins in their last four matches. They have also shown their quality in the big matches this season, winning 2-0 at Olympique Marseille while also knocking off Lille 3-0 in the Coupe de France.
Lille are coming off a surprise 2-1 home defeat against relegation threatened Nimes in their previous Ligue 1 fixture. They fell behind early but struck back through Xeka before conceding the winner right on the stroke of half time.
It was the second straight match without a win for Lille, who were also held to a 0-0 draw prior to the defeat against Nimes. The Coupe de France defeat to PSG is also sandwiched between both results as they appear to be going through a rough patch.
Christophe Galtier’ men have also struggled on the road lately with just one win in their last four away matches in all competitions. They are often let down by a shaky defence and have conceded five goals in their last two matches.
How the bookies view it
PSG have been installed as favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 8/11 by bet365. A victory for Lille is valued at 9/2 by betway while a draw is set at odds of 29/10 by betfair.
With Lille faltering lately and the return of Neymar for PSG, I am leaning towards a home win here.
Head to head
PSG have 26 wins from 53 previous matches against Lille who have claimed 12 victories. There have been 15 stalemates between both teams, including a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture back in December.
The Parisians have won three of the last four meetings against Lille and triumphed 3-0 in the Coupe de France in February.
Players to watch
Kylian Mbappe has scored 20 Ligue 1 goals this season and netted a brace against Lille in the Coupe de France. BetVictor has the forward at 23/20 to score anytime while Neymar is also worth keeping an eye on in the same market at 13/10 with Skybet.
Jonathan David and Burak Yilmaz are often tasked with carrying the attacking threat for Lille with both men scoring nine goals each this season. Sporting Index is offering 57/20 on Yilmaz to score anytime while David is priced at 7/2 by Paddy Power in the same market.
Anything else catch the eye?
PSG saw over 5.5 goals in their last Ligue 1 fixture and a similar outcome is valued at 14/1 by Red Zone. BetVictor is offering 6/1 for over 4.5 goals, over 3.5 goals is valued at 12/5 by bet365 while over 2.5 goals is set at odds of 19/20 by Sporting Index.
With Lille looking shaky at the back, it might be worth a punt backing PSG to score in both halves at 87/50 with Sporting Index. A score/win double with Kylian Mbappe and PSG could also be on the cards at 3/2 with Skybet while a win for the Parisians and over 2.5 goals is valued at 17/10 by BoyleSport.
