Easter Road, Sunday, 12.45pm

WITH the Old Firm derby a distant memory, the biggest game in Scotland is the Hibs v Hearts derby.

And it used to be one of the easiest games to predict with the Jambos dominating their city rivals for years.

There was a time when the Tynecastle men just had to turn up to win but not anymore.

Stung by last season's 5-1 Scottish Cup Final defeat to their city rivals, Pat Fenlon added steel to his side and is unbeaten in three capital clashes since.

The neighbours have drawn twice in the SPL and Hibs gained some revenge for that Hampden horror show with a 1-0 win when they were paired in the Scottish Cup fourth round back in December.

Whether you agree if the balance of power is shifting or not – just look at the prices for the Sunday kick-off.

Hibs are favourites at a biggest 13-8 with the likes of William Hill, bet365 and BetVictor – and I reckon they'll justify the odds for two reasons. One is Leigh Griffiths and the other the League Cup Final.

Hearts fans may jump at the 15-8 on offer from Coral after Gary Locke's men ended a run of six defeats with an impressive victory against St Johnstone in midweek.

Griffiths took his tally for a superb season to 22 at Kilmarnock last week and will be itching to show Gordon Strachan he's worth a look, especially if there are any Scotland call-offs for the World Cup double header.

Hibs fan Griffiths will take more delight than most from netting against the Jambos and is 4-1 at bet365 and BetVictor to score first to hit the opener and 5-4 at bet365 to strike at anytime.

Against a Hibs side who have scored eight in three games the Jambos might lack the firepower – and won't be handed gifts the way they used to. I'm on Hibs to win and it could be to nil at 7-2 (various).

Recommendations

Griffiths to score first
(4-1, bet365, BetVictor)

Hibs to win to nil
(7-2, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Coral)

Note: If the ref and linesman had been doing their job or goal-line technology was available these two bets were in. It should have been 1-0 Hibs, Griffiths first scorer. We wiz robbed!

what a shocker from the linesman.cant beleive he never seen that, what a joke.could of cost you a good return mr f.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

James, it cost me a right few quid and also it would have been exactly as I stated in the paper and on the site. Hibs to win and Griffiths to score first. Can’t believe it really because it was so far in. I’m feeling even more pissed than yesterday when I missed the first 10 minutes of the Bankies game when cops pulled me over for a spot check. All documents were in order but my plea to make the game on time fell on deaf ears.

I had Hibs winning, Griffith FGS and AGS. That blind linesman cost me a serious whack.

Footy betting has not been kind to me, the boxing last night really saved my bacon. No chance B365 will give a few quid in ‘good faith’ :D

Lionel, it was a real shame for Hibs and everyone who backed them. At least Griffiths backers should be happy.
