DISCORAMA (1.50) ran a cracker at the Cheltenham festival, finishing third to The Conditional in a thriller, and should again go well on his return to Prestbury Park in the 3m 3f handicap chase.

The Irish challenger was beaten on the nod by classy Native Milan on comeback at Galway in early October and Paul Nolan’s seven-year-old is open to more improvement this season. The rain was pelting down at Cheltenham early last evening so there will be no hiding place this afternoon. Discorama slogged through the mud to finish second in the four-mile National Hunt Chase at the 2019 festival, so he looks equipped for the attritional job in hand.

West Approach briefly threatened two out before giving best to fleet-footed Frodon here last month but is fancied to make a bold bid to follow up last year’s victory. He is up 6lb but that looks within his compass.

Alan King has scooped two of the last three renewals of the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle and he relies on last year’s victor Harambe and EDWARDSTONE (3.00).

Edwardstone was a smart novice last season, winning at Wincanton and Aintree, before running Stolen Silver close in the Haydock mud. The six-year-old finished sixth, but was by no means disgraced, in a hot Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He has plenty of scope for improvement.

Harambe edged out Gumball last year and a 6lb higher mark doesn’t rule him out completely. Tegerek has gone well on deep ground in the past and should be involved.

At Southwell, FORTULTOUS (11.40) looks overpriced at 6-1 in the opening 1m 4f handicap. It is quite a competitive affair for the grade and Fortultous posted a good second to odds-on Beat The Heat over course and distance 12 days ago. The winner came out and won again off an 8lb higher mark, so the form looks rock-solid.

ROUNDEL (12.10) didn't appear the heartiest of battlers when fading into third behind Annie De Vega here six days ago. The winner seems progressive, however, and Roundel should feel more at ease dropping into handicap company. David O'Meara fits cheek-pieces and the drop to seven furlongs seems the right way to go.

They expect big things for this horse there’s even Gold Cup talk??

Thankfully backed Alan’s last night B365 BOG as all except Edwardstone have been backed and much shorter in price now. Apart from B365 and Ladbrokes other firms only offer BOG from 9am in morning. SkyBet don’t offer BOG on enhanced each way place races.

Ramses de teillee 1-50 Cheltenham 9-4 top 2 finish.
Also taken 11-10 top 3 finish in multiples.
And a few quid on the nose each way in case it wins 7-1.
Money Thomson has tipped discorama so that probably wins but place possible.

it’s off putting he hasn’t chased since this race last year, where he was 4th of 7, over 20 lengths behind West Approach. he has a 10lb pull with that horse and carries 7lbs less overall. potentially an open race so wouldn’t put anyone off especially since DISCRORAMA isn’t overly convincing either at 9/4, the right fav but i don’t think i will touch. he’s only ever won one chase, hasn’t won for 2 years, and only beat BIG RIVER by 2 necks at the festival this year, they meet off similar weight disparities again today, i can’t see the form being overturned but he’s 10/1, might stick a recoba on it but he has pulled up the last two seasons on his pipe opener :( BOL

im not into racing enough to care about being the best, even on this free site.. if i was any good i’d be lurking elsewhere but i know enough, i dont doubt i would show a profit year in year out. for a casual reader, there is often no guidance so i dont see the problem highlighting flaws in some picks after the race, it helps blind backers to think twice next time, it might also lead tippers to look for an extra 10 minutes to ‘polish off’ their picks. notice how uncle pom’s been staying up till 2am recently? ;)

Rain came just in time for Ramses de teillee.
The 1st and 2nd are tough as old boots on soft/heavy.
Yala enki is a credit to his owners as this horse is always giving it’s best in top weekend handicaps.

I think the stewards caused some confusion on the track. The jockeys followed each other but the jockey on default winner remained cool and understood stewards instructions and went own course by jumping fence alone. He then eased the horse up knowing they only had to jump remaining fences to win or wasn’t sure but best to complete then leave it to stewards enquiry. Jockey should be commended.
Great commentary from Mark Johnston on the race. He knew exactly what had happened. As for taking bet winnings on the default winner I have no qualms. Many times it works the other way.
