DOMAIN DE L’ISLE (2.15) can outrun his huge odds in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Prolonged rain is forecast to hit the track from early Saturday morning and the ground looks likely to come up testing. That will favour Domain De L’Isle, a winner on heavy at Ascot in January when he had last year’s winner of this race, Happy Diva, ten lengths back in fourth.

He is only 4lb worse off with that rival and warmed up for this major prize with a spin over hurdles. Trainer Sean Curran saddled an across the card double on Thursday at odds of 20-1 and 10-1, and the layers may have underestimated his chances. The gelding can be backed at 50-1, six places ew with William Hill.

Soft ground will also benefit Simply The Betts, a dual course winner, and he is closely matched with Happy Diva on their running at the festival in March. With 17 runners declared there are multiple horses with chances and the ante-post market points to Saint Sonnet and Mister Fisher proving popular.

CAPTAIN TOM CAT (3.25) hosed up here under 7lb conditional jockey Cillan Leonard just over three weeks ago and a follow up is on the cards in the 2m 5f handicap hurdle. The fly in the ointment may be the testing ground as all three career victories have come on good. That is a risk worth taking, with progressive Captain Tom Cat remaining at the right end of the weights.

ELLE EST BELLE (3.55) cruised through her race under Harry Skelton before putting five rivals to the sword at Aintree (soft). She looks the one to beat in a more competitive mares’ bumper.

racing is relentless, so it is always best to act cautiously as tomorrow brings another 30+ races, but yeah a quid or two wouldnt of hurt on the nostril. easy to say now but anyway, PJ BRENNAN is a legend, and always seems to pop up with one at cheltenham, is basically why i tipped his 20/1 winner last week, he’d failed for fergal and i knew he’d won for flint before, so with the paper form OK enough, i went with it thinking he should be there for at least 1.
i have lost the most of my money by following others and ignoring my own instincts, i put in more time than most and my methods work out often enough, yet then i will go and bet x10 more on the word of another guy who probably doesn’t know 10% what i know in hope to get lucky, is probably why i post BS on here, my own fault for trusting random punters but sometimes it really is like WTF were you thinking there.. anyway well done winners, i lost a big 700 to break a decent spell =[

    • Avatar of Elvis Parsley
      elvis parsley 4 years ago

Bookies only exist due to the greed of punters.
Whether chasing losses or chasing more wins than you need.
It’s the seed of greed in the mind of gamblers that feeds the bookies satchels.

I know it’s old hat but bet with what you are comfortable losing with, and at the end of the day if you have any spondoolies left look at it as a bonus and if you have more than you start with treat yourself, treat your kids, treat your missus even ?.

Second thoughts when I buy her something she asks “what have you been up to” so maybe not!!

      insider 4 years ago

nice one, i wouldn’t agree he tries harder, i’d guess most of his other rides would often be spare no hopers, so when you see him on a winner, it is typically for fahey. i think you can read into jockey’s and owners a bit more, e.g. certain trainer/jockey/owner combos, like david egan often rides in those red and white epaulette silks for varian, working out who does well together is extremely helpful, taking an obviously example.. if SDS isn’t on king power… and neither is, let’s say hornby, then perhaps you should look deeper and question whether or not today is that horses day.

look at the 355 today, BOWEN is FRY’s main man, DH with skeltons, BURKE/SHERWOOD have combined well especially recently .. anyway look who the fav was 6/4,…. more bookie BS, UCANAVAR .. ok SURE honeyball had a bit of success recently, but HARRY COBDEN is on.. WHEN THE FK DOES HE EVER RIDE FOR HIM??? you can INSTANTLY, INSTANTLY, discount and save yourself a penny just by knowing stuff like this, AIDAN COLEMAN (BIG AIDEN COLEMAN) won on the horse LTO yet was on for olly murphy today, so it was glaringly obvious it wasnt UCANVARs day, then you got mugs on here who say they dont even pay attention to which combos win together?? GTFO, if you could only study one thing, then that would be it for me, so relevent it’s unreal, as i asid lost a bit today so ranting. GL
