HMS PRESIDENT (1.00) was an expensive failure last time but can make amends dropping in trip at Pontefract.
The top weight looked a sure future winner when staying on into fourth behind Highland Chief at Royal Ascot. HMS President couldn’t quite get the job done when beaten a neck by Surrey Pride at Newbury on his next start before failing to pick up when a warm favourite to see off Ilaraab and Throne Hall at Beverley. This testing mile on deep ground should bring out the best in him.
Sea Trout Lane appears the one to beat. He finished a short head behind Dashing Roger when they filled the places in the mile handicap won by Hot Summer at Newmarket and is now 5lb better off. William Haggas fits a tongue-tie.
AFTER JOHN (2.00) was a course and distance winner for Mick Channon as a juvenile and scored on only his second start for new trainer Rebecca Bastiman when always travelling strongly at Redcar (soft) at the end of August. A 3lb rise is fair and After John is worth an each-wager in an open event.
