IT TOOK me until the final race at Doncaster on Wednesday to get a winner but it was a beauty as Dark Shadow bolted up at an SP of 20-1.
The return to 5 furlongs was clearly just the trick for him and hopefully you had all stuck with my tips until the last race and got your just rewards after being on the wrong side of not one but two photo finishes with Misty Grey and Queens Gift earlier on. Personally I treated myself to a nice Chinese takeaway in celebration.
For the second day of the St Leger Festival I have four selections that I like and hopefully we can get another couple of winners.

This is a tricky race for 2 year old fillies but my eye was drawn to NIRODHA who has won her last two races including last time when she was stepped up to 7 furlongs. That might not have been a great race but she did it in really nice style despite being a bit green, winning from the front and proving that this trip is no problem for her. She should improve again and I don't think I would fancy laying her for this at prices like 22-1. Graceful Magic and Stylistique are big dangers but they are much shorter prices and I like the each way value with most bookies paying 4 places each way.

I'm going for one that is admittedly quite a speculative each way bet here with VIVID DIAMOND who won nicely at Chester last time we stepped up to this trip. Enbihaar and Dame Malliot are both proven at a higher level but they dominate the market and I would rather have the 16-1 each way where a top 3 finish pays us around 4-1 for the place than try to choose between the two favourites. It's a step up into a Group 2 race for Vivid Diamond but you know that Mark Johnston will have her fit and well for it and she looks the value bet in receipt of both 3 year old and filly weight allowances.

Many of you will have watched the race at York that Mum's Tipple won in stunning fashion two weeks ago but its the horse who finished 2nd that day that I am interested in today. RAYONG was beaten by 11 lengths that day into 2nd place but the 19 other horses in behind him were not all mugs and if Mum's Tipple wasn't there it would have been an impressive win. I think that performance has been underrated and today's race looks like something of a similar standard to me. I expected Rayong to be a good bit shorter than 14-1 today so he rates as a good bet for me. Harpocrates is probably the main danger if he can run to form.

This isn't an easy race to interpret and I can't work out why BOOMER is as big as 6-1 when he won a Group 3 last time at Goodwood where the runner up has subsequently won. She is in an absolute standout bet with Tom Dascombe's yard in good form at the minute and if you want to go each way to protect your stake then don't let me put you off. The favourite Cloak of Spirits won a novice race nicely and no doubt is a potential improver but I would rather back Boomer or West End Girl who have solid form in the book. As an aside, Ananya wasn't beaten far by West End Girl in a Group 3 last time despite making a horlicks of the start and one bookmaker currently has her at 33-1 which seems a bonkers price to me so feel free to have a small each way there too.
