PERFECTION (3.30) can gain reward for some consistent efforts this summer by scooping the Group 3 fillies' and mares' contest at Pontefract.
David O'Meara's four-year-old went down with all guns blazing behind Billesdon Brook at Goodwood, backing up another fine effort in defeat at Fairyhouse. Perfection drops to six furlongs which should not present a problem on this stiff track. She finished seventh in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot over this trip when drawn on the wrong side of the track. A visor is applied.
STORTING (4.30) was well backed at Goodwood but gave his rookie rider a torrid time, hanging right over to the stands' rail, forfeiting many lengths. Mick Channon's gelding has the services of Silvestre De Sousa today and although a 78 rating isn't usually good enough to win a middle-of-the-road Novice Stakes, this doesn't look a strong affair.
Ralph Beckett's Hereby has been treated quite leniently with a 3lb rise for her Chester victory and will be all the rage in the 1m 4f handicap. At an attractive each-way price I'd rather throw a few quid at JABBAAR (2.30), so often knocking on the door. He likes some cut underfoot and was second over course and distance to Andrew Balding's 92-rated Caliburn in June. Jabbaar lost nothing in defeat behind warm favourite Alright Sunshine at Musselburgh and deserves a change of fortune.
Agree with Thommo 100% on Perfection 4/1, SDS booked loves it around Ponty he has a very good record here. If my memory serves me right, he had 4-timer here this time last year.

We aren’t going to be winning loads with such small stakes but for me, the 0.25pt bets are risk free and I am happy to win small whilst waiting for ”good things” to come about.

HEREBY is quite a short price but could well be up to the task carrying bottom weight. Thoroughly unexposed making her 2nd hcap start, she has been raised just 3lbs for winning lto in a C4. Up in Class today, this will be tougher but not much else is jumping off the page. She won over this distance last time and will enjoy the conditions with her form from last time reading well, beating previous winners and Gossip Column who has been out since and won off 85. The win stake is small as she is included in a double and I don’t want to be at too much risk if she fails to go in.
Jabbaar isn’t well in by any means and would need his best but 11/8 for top 3 carries less risk than the 11/8 for Hereby to win IMO, if the fav does go in, it’ll cover the more lucrative 8/1 win bet.

UTILITY looked full of running when winning LTO and has an 8lb hike to deal, he beat Malangen by 16 lengths who made a few mistakes late on but has came out and won next time.
You can get 7/4 WITHOUT Lovato and Capital Force (the same price as a top 2 finish) which seems very good value. The other two rivals have had 100 day breaks although I do always look out for Richie McLernon for Haslam in these famous colours, they have shortened overnight and are one of many dangers.
17:00 Pontefract PENNY POT LANE 17/2 0.25pt win, 0.25pt top 3 7/4
Penny Pot Lane has beat Inexes already and is 1lb better off. She was 1.25l behind current fav Magical Effect (into 7/4 from 11/4 overnight) and is also 1lb better off. Given she is 17/2, that looks decent value given she is only 2lbs higher than a C&D success back in June.
I’ll chance a risky win bet and hope she can place to ensure we don’t lose anything.

I have tipped up a Phil Kirby horse before when utilising a 10lb claimer. The selection will run off 87, he has no form this season and his results have been better over slightly further, the price is skinny but he is dropped into Class 5 company and 12lbs below his last win.
Connections of Grand Enterprise caught my eye yesterday and they had a decent 2nd, perhaps he is worth a small bet at 10/1 but I will advise top 3 for caution. Country Delights jockey often pops up and may be worth a look in the place market at least.
