RED CHARMER (1.50) has been a very busy boy this summer and is having his 10th start since the beginning of August when lining up for the seller at Musselburgh.

Marjorie Fife’s gelding is well treated on official figures and as long as his exertions aren’t beginning to take their toll, Red Charmer should win with something to spare. He threw in a rare poor run at Ascot last time but his earlier close second to Bubble And Squeak at Newmarket is by far the best form on display.

JACOB BLACK (2.20) is always to be feared at Musselburgh, having won three times and been runner-up on two other occasions at the track this season. Keith Dalgleish is finishing the turf season strongly and if Jacob Black can make full use of stall one he will be hard to beat.

Dalgleish has campaigned NEVER BE ENOUGH (4.20) around a mile and an initial handicap mark of 73 seems reasonable. The significant factor, however, is the big step up in distance which looks sure to suit this daughter of Derby winner Sir Percy.

MUNTADAB (3.20) won the Class 2 handicap on the card last year and although 5lb higher he looks the most likely winner. My one concern is the wide draw in stall 10 and 7lb apprentice Oakley Brown will need to be on his mettle to get Muntadab across before the bend looms large.

Recommended Musselburgh bets

  • 1.50 – Red Charmer (118, Ladbrokes)
  • 2.20 – Jacob Black (6-1, bet365)
  • 3.20 – Muntadab (9-2, Coral)
  • 4.20  – Never Be Enough (4-1, bet365)

230y – Sarasota Bay performed well in the mud when 1l 3rd behind Aldana off level weights, Aldana has gone in twice since, the latest of which in this class. Yarmouth should be soft today and the Quinn/Hart combo have had winners recently. Aplomb looks a danger but happy to chance it at 3/1.

Cieren Fallon ran a good 2nd in a big handicap at the weekend, he has a had 5 rides, 21222 so looks an apprentice to keep an eye on. He picks up 4 rides today, a 5/1 shot for Haggas and 3 outsiders.
