AKAMANTO (5.10) can give supporters of local trainer R Mike Smith plenty to shout about in the 1m 5f apprentices’ handicap at Ayr.
The gelding chased home three-year-old Benadalid at Chester conceding 9lb and the winner landed a most competitive handicap at Ripon last Saturday. Andrew Breslin gets the leg up.
COVIGLIA (4.10) is developing into something of an Ayr specialist. The four-year-old hinted his turn was at hand when running a neck second to Pepys (winner last week) over course and distance in May. Coviglia duly posted subsequent back-to-back victories at Ayr and Wolverhampton before another very solid effort at Chester when beaten a neck by Gabrial’s Kaka.
JABBAROCKIE (2.30) managed to keep the very speedy Glamorous Rocket within striking distance before powering home at Haydock. A 6lb penalty may not prevent a follow-up.
A few showers are forecast and that would probably benefit UNIVERSAL GLEAM (4.40). Keith Dalgleish’s three-year-old had Glasses Up more than four lengths adrift when scoring here in June (made all) and can confirm places on 7lb worse terms. Glasses Up has since won at Ayr and holds Testa Rossa. It is a tight affair.
Lucy Normile has been in the winner’s circle this month with Granite City Doc and stablemate ROYAL DUCHESS (3.05) should go well if fully wound up following a break. The mare has a fine Ayr record and her second to Mischief Managed over course and distance in May was a solid effort.
A prominent showing would clearly boost confidence in MISCHIEF MANAGED (3.35). His third to Ladies First and Jacob Black sets the standard.

just read through yesterdays thread
well done edgeman.
you have started the battle against your addiction by being man enough to open your heart here and you have taken the first step by admitting you are an addict.
you will find after the initial anger your loved ones will most likely offer you more support than you realise, and think how proud they will be of you if you follow the road to recovery.
all gamblers are impetious and when we lose we pretend its not a problem and continue gambling from a lower financial base.
when this base reaches the point where you are dipping into rent money, bill money, and god forbid your childrens money, its obviously not fun anymore and you need urgent help.
its mostly in the mind the seed of gambling, could be where the term nip it in the bud comes from, and you need to nip it in the bud now, and more often than not, a simple chat with a reformed gambler can lead you on the road to recovery.
a lot of gamblers say they need to gamble to pay bills etc, this isn’t the answer, if that’s the case you are living beyond your means and you need to look at your personal finances.
how many times do you see people smiling in the bookies when they have had a big win and saying, this will pay for a holiday, car etc, (they are most likely kidding themselves as they have most likely lost that amount and more beforehand,) then next day you see them looking miserable as they have not used their win for any useful purpose and gave it back to the bookies. this I call utterly pointless and is a sign of addiction.
if you only bet with money that’s buckshee in that it has no bearing on your ability to pay bills, feed your kids etc, fine, but for gods sake use any winnings from this buckshee money for a purpose, like treating your loved ones and DONT give it back.
im sorry edgeman ive rather gone off on a tangent but I feel your pain mate and im sure mr fixit will help you in any way he can, and please wake up tomorrow, give your loved ones a big hug and say to yourself, this is the first day of the rest of my life.
best wishes edgeman
Thanks for the kind words Elvis and all the other guys from yesterday’s thread. It’ll definitely be a help to me. Gong to attend a GA meeting this week and see how that goes. I’ve been gambling for many many years but the last 5 really haven’t been enjoyable. I have massive debts and I’ve been gambling in a bid to keep payments up. I realise now all its done is get me deeper in debt. I have been making stupid irrational bets to chase losses . I won 1800 on France winning the world cup. Great most normal people would think. Family holiday maybe? Not me. I put 1500 of it on MVG to win the darts this week. Cue first round shock defeat! Then the red mist descends. Was betting stupid on other darts matches, hundreds on total 180s that kind of thing,
Without doing proper research. Even been on the stupid roulette in the bookies and caned myself. Total mug punter and bookies dream basically. But no more. Today is the first day on a long road I think.
Thanks again to all and genuinely good luck to each one of you.
GA is a good first step and I hope it goes well for you.
They may be able to give you some advice about how to tackle the debt problem too – you should be able to make an agreement with creditors that reduces the debt and freezes interest.
Edgeman sorry to hear of your problems, all the very best for the future bud.
I’ve not done GA but I did have a one on one with a rather angry therapist. In the end I had my wages paid into my parents account. I did this for years and never once netted. Then bc my mum was diagnosed with dementia she couldn’t remember wussy she owed me. Besides what 40 Yr old has to ask their mum for pocket money.
It was only a day after when I got a new bank account that I started again. I’m now into my 2nd month’s rent, savings gone & I’m going to cash in my meager pension to get back on track. But it won’t stop me. A manic depressive does not fear consequences. Why worry when you are best the edge.
Good luck. It’s nice that Mr Fixit allows us to who’ve now and again.
Manic depression/bipolar.
Tips,
learning to recognise the triggers and signs of an episode of depression or mania
psychological treatment – such as talking therapy, which can help you deal with depression, and provides advice about how to improve your relationships
lifestyle advice – such as doing regular exercise, planning activities you enjoy that give you a sense of achievement, as well as advice on improving your diet and getting more sleep
It’s thought using a combination of different treatment methods is the best way to control bipolar disorder.
It’s not easy to stop but you need to try to stop or at least limit your stakes.
Also you can self-exclude from online bookies and in your local shops.
