I’LL be fiddling around at Ayr with focus very much on Royal Ascot. WOR LASS (4.45) has been raced sparingly by Donald Whillans so far this season and the Borders trainer has picked out a tempting opportunity.

The 10-year-old is still as sprightly as ever judged on her second to in-form Becky The Thatcher over 2m 1f at Carlisle, followed by her defeat of Great Fighter more recently at Musselburgh over a shorter trip. She is up 2lb and remains well enough handicapped.

Ingleby Hollow was put up 4lb after scoring at Wetherby in May and ran very well at Doncaster next time when chasing home Framley Garth. David O’Meara’s gelding has been raised another 3lb and that may just catch him out. Money for Irish challenger Thomas O’Malley might prove relevant, although he hasn’t shown a great deal since leave Joseph O’Brien.

Michael Dods saddled the winner of the Queen Mother’s Cup at York and the stable could be running into peak form. MY NAME IS RIO (3.35) has probably been waiting for some easier ground after finishing second to Black Isle Boy at Thirsk in April, doing best of the high drawn runners. The fourth horse in that race was Paddy Power, winner of the big sprint at York on Saturday, and back-to-form Muscika was seventh.

PROUD ARCHI (4.10) was a short head behind Saint Equiano when they finished just out of the places behind Luis Vaz De Torres over course and distance a fortnight ago. Third horse Areen Heart won at Leicester on Saturday evening and that Ayr race could have been quite strong for the grade.

Jim Goldie rarely leaves here empty-handed and STAR CRACKER (3.05) drops to the minimum trip after running fifth to Mr Shelby a fortnight ago. He was drawn on the wrong side that day but is better berthed here.

The concluding lady amateur riders’ race may not be everyone’s cup of tea but MUNTHANY (5.15) can be worth the wait. He had the worst of the draw in stall 16 at Pontefract last Monday but ran on well into third behind Highly Sprung and The Amber Fort. That looked a race of slightly better quality.
