DOSE (7.45) has been found a good opening by Richard Fahey at Wolverhampton this evening.

She has been a disappointing sort but hasn't run at all badly on her last couple of outings. Dose chased home Courier at Chelmsford City and finished second in an amateur riders' event over course and distance last time. Paul Hanagan takes over the reins and Dose is a stonking each-way bet at 9-2 now meeting her own sex.

Rowlestonerendezvu is favourite on the back of a nose defeat at Lingfield nine days ago and she won by a wide margin at Kempton in January. However, she has been competing over longer trips and this extended mile may be on the sharp side.

SKY MARSHAL (5.00) is my main bet at Lingfield, with Ed Walker's four-year-old chasing a hat-trick.

He is a dual course winner and that wins him the nod over Star Ascending. I just cannot get this horse right, having tipped him the two occasions he got beat at Southwell and swerved him every time he has won.

The handicapper has given Star Ascending another great chance as he is due to go up 9lb in future. The one drawback is his lack of track experience on a different surface at Lingfield.

LAYTOWN (2.10) is trading at around 9-2 and that makes her an attractive each-way proposition.

Jamie Osborne's filly made hot favourite Bezos sweat at Wolverhampton 13 days ago and I'm hoping Dougie Costello gives Laytown a positive ride from a wide berth in stall nine.

Not overly confident but he is the right favourite at about the right price on form, he is the most likely winner but cases can be made for others, Faugheen can never be ruled out and the price of Wicklow Brave baffles me, the 20/1 is massive

Thanks john. Im told doctor bartollo wins today!
The reason why wayne hutchinton is on the other horse for the yard is because the owner of doctor sacked him two years ago for a crap ride!! Wat u think

      Clear skies!?

    • Avatar of Johnb
      Johnb 7 years ago

Of course but no need for me to put her up again as we are already on at 16/1 and hopefully others followed, we were very confident she would run so not getting the Non Runner No Bet wasn’t an issue,
It says it all when you see the horses that O’Brien pulled out the race and left Clear Skies in,
It also says it all when you see that Clear Skies is the first horse O’Brien has sent over for the Winter Derby

She is the lowest rated horse in the race by a big margin but she is still lowly rated as she is still improving

No filly or Mare has ever won the Winter Derby and this is the 21st year

She is also running at a track that goes against her norm, it’s a quick track and a lot of people have been saying they could go too quick for her especially with the sharp bends but I am confident

I said a while ago that she should be sent over for the race and it’s encouraging that connections have sent her

      John ,
I’m interested in your reasoning on picking Mala Beach over Bellshill, what’s the deciding factor for you? I’ve been watching past footage of both the last hour and Bellshill just edges it for me. I know trends aren’t much to go by but he’s won nearly everytime he’s been sent off favourite in the last 2 years.
