IT was a tricky night as always on the English midweek card but results went pretty much to plan in the Champions League.
Unfortunately the only surprise – Benfica's home defeat – beat my Top Treble and Celtic failing to score upset the Super Single.
I expected PSG to win well but Celtic will be disappointed at not laying a hand on them in the first half and by that time it was all over. They had chances in the second half with the best falling to Scott Sinclair but his effort was well saved from close range.
Well done to all the winners including Scott Allot with his double.
So we move on to Wednesday with Liverpool, Man City and Spurs all in Champions League action. I've posted a separate preview and will where the tips are reasoned.
For the Super Single I'm going with Cristiano Ronaldo, currently serving a domestic ban, to take out his frustration with the opener against Apoel in the Bernabeu.

To put it simply, Ennor has been on fire. He was a member of the U20 NZ side that lifted the World Cup earlier this year, and has just this week been signed by Super Rugby side Crusaders (the winners of this year’s championship), so there is definitely potential. Out of the 3 matches he has played for Canterbury so far, he has scored a total of 6 tries alone (4 last week, and 2 the week before). The bookies have set the line for Canterbury’s tries at 5.5 (which tempts me a lot!), and the weather looks all clear; everything points to a high scorer. With Ennor’s confidence riding high and his team with the momentum and ability to smash Counties, i see no reason why Ennor cannot get on the score sheet at least once, hopefully twice. DARLINGTON VS. UNITED OF MANCHESTER:
I’ve mulling this one over all morning and it’s a bit of a quandry – both are (usually) decent sides who love a goal but are in dire form.
Darlo have really gone off the boil and after a massive squad change with the likes of goal-machine Carter leaving, they can’t find the net with just 3 goals in their last 7…unheard of for the mighty Quakers.
So, here’s the quandry – I’ve been looking to back AGAINST Darlo as opposed to my usual goals FOR…problem is, tonight’s oppenents FC Utd have been dogsh*t as well!
However, if we go on form, Utd are actually the better side; Darlo have amassed 3 points in their last 6 games (3 draws) whilst FC Utd have grabbed 7 points with 2 wins and a draw…it puts the 4/1 for an away win in perspective.
Both recent H2Hs both saw goals-galore but on the current run I just can’t justify it and instead I’m taking on the away gamble with the additional knowledge that our friends from the NE have been conceding too many early goals of late.

Goal potential in Denmark this early evening.
Skive are rock bottom and winless but have only failed to score once on the road at Koge (who average just one goal conceded in their opening 8). Skive have seen BTTS and Overs in 7 of their 9 domestic games this season, including all three at home. They even put 2 past Velje, who sit top with the joint best defensive record.
Fredericia average 4 goals a game in the league (as do Skive) and have seen BTTS and Overs land in all four away domestic fixtures (including an 8-1 cup victory). BTTS has landed in 7 of their 9 opening domestic games, too.
The BTTS record between the two is respectable and four of the last six meetings at Skive have seen BTTS and Overs. The other two finished 2-0 to Skive.
Not a league I’m comfortable with but can’t shy away from those stats at a decent price.

I often find it hard to assess the likes of Porto and Benfica when playing in Europe due to the manner in which they dominate the league domestically. Last night, Benfica took their strong start to the campaign into a home tie against CSKA Moscow and received a rude awakening. Certainly, I think this was something of an anomaly and they absolutely dominated possession, but it does give an example of where there might be a little bit of value.
Porto’s start has been even more impressive and they have yet to concede in their opening 5 victories. They have, however, played some pretty poor opposition and that includes a Braga side not hitting their usual stride so far.
Tonight’s opponents Besiktas often fail to keep clean sheets even in their own league. They have had 6 domestic fixtures, scoring in each but conceding in four of them to teams I’m not even going to attempt to spell. Their scoring record is, however, mightily impressive. They have only failed to score in two fixtures this calendar year.
Even though Aboubakar misses a reunion with Besiktas due to suspension, you’d have to fancy Porto netting tonight. But can Besiktas grab a goal themselves? In pre-season, Besiktas conceded in all four games against Spanish and German opposition, but did notch each time themselves, including at Schalke. In fact, it is their recent European form against decent opposition that I find tempting.
Last season, they were in a CL group with Benfica, Napoli and Kiev and nearly all of their games saw goals (average of 3.8). They beat Napoli 3-2 away from home, drew with them 1-1 at home and played out score draws (3-3, 1-1) in both games against Benfica. Their only disappointment came when losing 6-0 to Kiev after going down to 10 men early on – so BTTS landed in 5 of their 6 group games.
Dropping down to the Europa League, they beat Hapoel Beer Sheva 3-1 and 2-1 in the Last 16, drew 1-1 then won 4-1 against Olympiakos before being knocked out by Lyon in the quarters after two respective 2-1 victories. Therefore, BTTS landed in 11 of 12 European fixtures last season and Besiktas.
So to answer the question – maybe. But I like the price that’s available for either side to net.
