IT'S D-Day for Scotland who must beat Slovenia at home or write off yet another qualifying campaign after just five games.

Gordon Strachan's men have taken just one point from nine and are uneasy favourites to win at Hampden against a side unbeaten in seven.

Slovenis have started Group F well and haven't lost in four and look big at 12-5 with McBookie although they have a poor record on British soil.

As a Scotland fan it's difficult to back against them but only the most optimistic supporter will expect us to win after back-to-back 3-0 defeats in Slovakia and England.

Worse than that was the 1-1 home draw with Lithuania – and Wednesday's 1-1 stalemate with Canada was as low as it goes.

OK, it was a friendly but no one did themselves any favours including the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Darren Fletcher who will feature tomorrow.

Others who will come in to strengthen the side include Craig Gordon, Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong to make his debut after an outstanding couple of months at Celtic.

I'd like to see Kieran Tierney start but left-back is the one area where we are well covered and it's a toss-up between the young Celt and Andy Robertson. And James Forrest may also get a role out wide.

Strachan has a striker crisis with only Chris Martin getting a regular game for his club and he looked out of sorts against the Canadians. Steven Fletcher is the most experienced but I'd side with Leigh Griffiths and from today's reports that seems to be his choice. Griffiths is 32-5 at Marathonbet to score first.

We may have to rely on the midfield for goals though. Matt Ritchie and debut boy Armstrong have been banging them in for Newcastle and Celtic respectively. Ritchie is 4-1 at 888sport to net with Armstrong 17-4 with McBookie.

Snodgrass is usually our best for a goal but hasn't netted since moving to West Ham from Burnley for £10million and was off the pace against Canada – but who wasn't.

Scotland are a best 7-5 with the draw 11-5 at Bwin. For me the best bet is to keep the draw on side and back Slovenia at 8-13 with 188BET not to lose or 11-8 at McBookie draw no bet.

Strachan will set up the side to attack as a draw is no use and that could lead to goals at either end. Both teams to score pays 23-20 at William Hill while over 2.5 goals returns 13-8 at McBookie.

Slovenia will look to St Etienne's Robert Beric or Milivoje Novakovic. The latter is in better form and has netted in his last two games for Maribor. He is 11-4 at 888sport to net.

What about Stuart armstrong to score anytime from outside the box at 17/1?

It’s not a bad price as he scores most of his goals from outside the box – pretty sure he’ll start but it’s asking a lot for him to be the hero.

Not a bad bet I’d say
