Apr 30: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

JOHNB had a super Saturday with Willie Mullins winning the Irish Trainers Championship with the help of his 5-2 nap Bapaume.

Mullins was tipped at 5-2 as a double-stake pick by our man when he trailed Gordon Elliot by several hundreds of thousands pounds but he came good in the Punchestown Festival.

Well done all who posted winners on Saturday and here are Johnb’s latest selections.

He’s probably been too busy. Today is the end of the month so he’ll put them up later or tomorrow I suppose.
You probably know the figure anyway if you’re asking.

Tbh the whole points total things a bit odd imo. You yourself has said only johnb is required to put them up, yet they’ve been missing for a few days after another bad month. I don’t mean this as a dig at Johnb as he’s probably forgotten more about horses than half of us will ever know. I personally just find it odd that after two plus years of posting points totals every day they’ve suddenly stopped appearing on the site.

Dynamo as I have stated myself before the less you no about horses the better I worked with a man that never backed a horse in his life till I got him on them he’s after winning well over 25,000 + in the few years I’ve known him and how he picked his horses was anything that had three a,s in the name . Now he’s studying the horses and he can’t win anything

    Morning all,

It was a frustrating day for myself yesterday as I had 3 seconds. I was also frustrated with the form from Bath a few weeks ago as all three horses I backed that tied into it bombed – wouldn’t recommend following it. Well done to all the winners there were a few good ones on the site. I have looked out a few confident selections today and there are a large amount of points on the line, as always you don’t need to back them all and you can adjust the pound per points as you see fit. With this being the last day of April I’m now at risk of recording my first monthly loss on the site but I’m hopeful of a few winners today:

    14.00 Salisbury – Sharp Defence 5/4

This horse impressed me massively with his nose second at Musselburgh. He only lost that race in the last yard and hopefully he can make amends today. The horse is a consultant animal who always seems to run well, the two placed efforts he recorded in Ireland last season were very respectable as he had some good horses in front (and behind) and he can be forgiven his run in Meydan as he didn’t handle the dirt. Looks to be a solid bet to kick off the day (3 points win).

    15.35 Gowran – Somehow 6/4

I put this horse up last time as a 15 point selection in a Naas Group 3. Given that was her seasonal debut she ran well enough finishing a close second. With that run under her belt she is expected to go one better today. The return to better ground and the step up in trip all should work in her favour. She drops down to listed class today and even though she carries a penalty she should have the class to see if this field (Her 7 length win in a Group 3 under similar conditions last year was very impressive). She rates as a strong bet in my book as at 6/4 offers some value (I have her at 8/11) therefore I will be increasing my stake today (15 points win @ 6/4) but as always nothing is assured.

    16.05 Gowran – Taj Mahal 5/4

Taj Mahal was the choice of Ryan Moore last time in the Leopardstown 2000 Guineas trial when he finished second to the smart Orderofthegarter. That was a good effort and this highly tried son of Galileo should take all the beating this afternoon. The step up in trip should work in his favour and based on the speed rating from that Leopardstown race he is clearly the one to be on (in my opinion). I was tempted to increase my stake to the full 15 points but given there are a few unexposed types lurking in here I will play 7.5 points win @ 5/4.

    16.35 Sailbury – The Tartan Spartan 2/1

There is no doubt that the Tartan Spartan would have finished closer to stable mate Carbon Dating with a clear run at Musselburgh last time. Nevertheless, he finished a close third to record a career best. If he can build on that he looks to have a solid chance today. He drops slightly down in class but conditions should suit well. This horse was highly tried last year and I open to bags of improvement and hopefully he can put up a bold showing today (3 points win @ 2/1).

    Otherbets:

1 point win Double Taj Mahal & Somehow @ 4.34/1

0.50 point Yankee on all 4 selections (5.5 points in total).

Many thanks and GL to all

    April: -13.5

Stats will be updated soon as work is keeping me busy with horses to see and people to advise and that’s on top of traveling but not complaining, I have said for nearly four years now that I update my personal stats monthly but since posting on here I have been posting daily 99.9% of the time
For nearly four years now I have been saying it’s all about long term but some people just can’t see that, if you worry about Day to day, week to week or even month to month then you need to change your mind frame, long term for me is Year to year and unless I am in a loss situation on the 31st December then I don’t think about it.
Whenever I have a good or a bad day it’s forgotten about as the only day that matters is tomorrow because you can’t do anything about yesterday,
As for the time restraints some days, I will be putting into motion a solution soon

Even in good months I have sometimes not been able to post stats everyday so in reply to a comment, there is nothing strange about it, situations change in life and most things in life can be changed but sadly making days more than 24hrs can’t

  16. Profile photo of juicin
    juicin 4 weeks ago

What is your advised staking plan John. Some say you need 100pts, yet for as long as I can remember you have regularly been 20-40pts down, there is no easy to access record for your stats so sorry if I am wrong but I think saying long term is a bit vague…

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 4 weeks ago

What’s vague about long term? His yearly stats go Jan 1 to Dec 31.
Also if you want to keep his stats they’re easy to follow.

      • Profile photo of geo
        geo 4 weeks ago

Vague means unclear Mr Fixit and to be fair it is vague. He was asked why the points haven’t been updated as regularly and you and him have an automatic response of taking it as criticism and then answering it’s about the long term which doesn’t answer the question at all. And how can time be the issue when he put several posts a day up this week about something quite irrelevant.

          It’s geo 😀
Let’s see now, Thursday Punchestown, Friday Nottingham, Saturday Glasgow, Sunday Leeds, Monday home, Tuesday Nottingham, Wednesday Thursday home, Friday Saturday Sunday Newmarket
Hence time restraints but as stated earlier I am working on a solution that will solve this

You don’t need to change anything to be honest.
I have no problem with the way you operate so don’t try to pander to one or two.

      • Profile photo of juicin
        juicin 4 weeks ago

Vague as in I haven’t seen an advised point bank to start with, should we have a bottomless pit of points to bet on his tips with? What is his plan? He had time to post ten times about the irish trainer top so should be able to clarify that for us.

Obscure as in, if he is about long term profit for me, the initial post in the thread should have his long term stats for us to see, for as I see it, I would have to find the end of month thread to see his totals, which mean’s trawling through hundreds of pages, why not create an easy to access page with all his statistical information on… as I say it’s hard info to find.

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 4 weeks ago

Don’t get your “vague” as I have always stated it’s about yearly figures,
As for a staking plan 100 is probably about right but most people who gamble for a living or second income will tell you that at some point they lose their bank, a lot of businesses need reinvestment to see the profits and gambling is no different as we can’t guarantee every year will start with a profit

      • Profile photo of juicin
        juicin 4 weeks ago

I rate your knowledge as invaluable John so it’s not an attack on you. Just haven’t seen a plan outlined and explaining to fixit why I meant by vague.. nothing wrong with reinvestment just as I said, isn’t really easy to find your monthly stats without individually trawling through the last thread of the month amongst 100 of pages.

So if all you tell people is even stakes over the long term will reap rewards, then it is a little vague.. You just said 100pts is about right, well imagine you lost 100pts in a row, then you should tslking about the need to reinvest in you and pointing to your long term results.. which as stated, are not easy to find.

I came on here and told people to start with 100pts even if it means 10p a point and I said follow every tip in a seperate bank used solely on my tips, I post my points daily, others track their daily/monthly points and also post their overall stats daily, something you dont. You say long term but only show short term stats.

Two trainers worth following at Salisbury are Richard Hannon and Sir Michael Stoute and both Sunday’s selections are trained by these trainers, Salisbury is a galloping track with a seven furlong home straight which has a slight dogleg and the last four furlongs is uphill so it’s quite a testing track that suits horses either making the pace or up with the pace, I fully expect both Adament and Paris Protocol to be right up there leading or up with the pace, Paris Protocol has won on his only visit here when beating Stargazer which was a very eye catching performance, he was then beat by Stargazer on handicap debut but it wasn’t surprising he struggled to give that horse 6lb, the step up in distance will suit although others feel it won’t, the horse has been gelded since his last run and is open to any amount of improvement in a race that is a step down in class, Adamant who runs an hour earlier and also has Ryan Moore in the saddle although he isn’t too confident about this horse but I see him as one of the biggest improvers of the day, the step up in distance will suit and hopefully a bit of rain will come in time although it’s not needed, both these horses need a good gallop so hopefully we get that and the course will suit both

If you want to slaughter Johnb do it somewhere else.
Meanwhile, read this – that’s how it’s done.

A Coral online punter from Leicester yesterday won £823,000 for just a £19 bet, the biggest ever horse racing pay-out in the betting firm’s history, and the punter this morning described it as “the realisation of a lifetime dream”.

The male customer in his forties, who wishes to remain anonymous, placed a £19 accumulator bet on five horses running at Punchestown. However, he didn’t even know he had landed his life-changing win until he came in from a night out in the early hours and checked the racing results.
“I’ve been placing these accumulator bets pretty much every day for twenty years, and winning this bet is the realisation of a lifetime dream. Over the years I’ve come close landing a big return a couple of times but kept hitting the woodwork, and now I’ve done it I feel remarkably calm. I don’t know if I’ll even carry on betting after this as I feel I’ve achieved my goal”, said the Leicester-based Coral customer.
The winning punter revealed that his approach to selecting the horses involved plenty of form study and research. “I put a lot of effort into picking my horses. I like to follow stables in form, I’ll study the breeding of the horses, and look at their recent performances. I then check which bookie has the best odds for my bet, and unfortunately for Coral, this time it was you guys.
“My Dad was a bookie and got me into it when I was young. My first winning bet was on Desert Orchid when he won the 1986 King George. I’ve followed the sport and been placing these bets ever since.
“I never place singles, only accumulators, and nearly always with three or more horses in them. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the money, as it’s only just sinking in, but I have a few ideas and it is going to change my life.”

This is the biggest ever horse racing bet that Coral has paid out and Simon Clare, Coral PR Director, said this morning, “This is the most incredible big-win story that we have ever encountered and a just-reward for our customer for twenty years of perseverance placing these ‘small-stake big-win’ bets day-in day-out.”

“Canardier, the horse that completed his incredible big win was a 33/1 outsider when he backed it, though it returned 8/1, and the customer told me that he didn’t think the form of the other horses in the race was that good, and that as Canardier was well-bred and with a good trainer it was worth a punt. Even in the context of landing this amazing bet that one horse was a truly inspirational selection,” added Clare.

“There must be something in the water in Leicester, as the City’s football team landed the biggest shock in football betting history last year winning the Premier League at odds of 5000/1, and now this inspired customer has landed the biggest ever horse-racing win with Coral of over £800k for just £19,” concluded Clare.

    Mondays Tips

    Bath
    2:50
Diable d’Or 16/1 NAP paddy power

    Saint-Cloud
    3:00
    Potemkin 15/2 NB paddy power

    Windsor
    4:55
    Hell Yeah 13/2 paddy power

    Also 3x 0.25pt eachway doubles & 1x 0.25pt eachway treble

    Diable d’Or NAP
I like a challenge and Bath certainly is a challenge but it’s a challenge that has served me well over the years, the racecourse is situated up high so the wind can be a problem to horses and jockeys, it can be a stiff course because of the 4f uphill finish and the wind, Bath racecourse is the only British course not to have a watering system so it’s no surprise that the course is currently fast with a going stick reading of 10.9 although rain is expected tonight and early Monday morning before drying up again, Diable d’Or is interesting as he ran a career best in the Super Sprint at Newbury but can he reproduce an effort close to that, he hasn’t in his last two runs at Nottingham but both those races he wasn’t ridden to maximum effect and actually the jockey in both those races never used his whip once, it may be the case that he isn’t meant to do anything on Monday and is being saved for better but I just feel with him on a very low handicap mark he has to be near the head of the betting and certainly not a 16/1 shot
The small field is a concern but if he was to show the early speed he showed in the sprint cup then he could burn these away early, surely connections have to take advantage of his pace at a track like this

    Potemkin NB
The pricing of this horse is strange, this German horse by New Approach is a 6yo but has only had eight runs, he won the Group 2 Prix Dollar at Chantilly where he had Mondays race joint favourite two lengths back in third and also giving Zarak 5lb and in this race they are off level weights, the main danger should be Godolphin horse Hawkbill but I do like Potemkin a lot, he had to wait till a gap appeared and when the jockey asked him it wasn’t an immediate turn of foot but when it did kick in it was impressive, he then went on to win the Group 1 Premio Roma, he got outpaced in that race but stayed on well to win by an eased down one and a half lengths, the front two pulling clear of the rest

    Hell Yeah
Bargains in horse racing are available which is proved by this horse, He’ll Yeah is an ex Godolphin horse that was bought by Godolphin as a yearling for 70,000 Guineas but sold as an unraced 3yo for £800
He won on debut 623 days ago but hasn’t been seen since
What was impressive about that win was the slow pace, Hell Yeah was always at the back but travelled well throughout, he was still last with just over two furlongs to go but on the bridle, his burst of speed was eye catching, he was so quick he nearly ran up the back of a horse having to be checked up then showing a second burst of speed to romp to victory as the commentator said, when he won that race he had also been entered in a bumper that week, he is definitely the interesting horse of the race and the best value horse of the race as everything he did on debut looked perfect, to do what he did off a slow pace was exceptional
