Two teams at the opposite end of the English Championship table will square off on Wednesday night, as Sheffield Wednesday play host to Middlesbrough at Hillsborough.
Having suffered losses to both Coventry and Charlton in their last two outings, the home team now find themselves propping up the table.
In contrast, Middlesbrough got their promotion push back on track with a 2-1 win over Ipswich on Friday night, in a game that brought up my player-based selection.
Given the state of play in the second tier at the moment, it’s no surprise to see that Middlesbrough come into this clash as general 3/4 favourites with most bookmakers.
With those odds holding little appeal, I’m instead going to propose a play on the visitors to score two or more goals in South Yorkshire on Wednesday night at 17/20 on William Hill.
As mentioned, Sheffield Wednesday have fallen to the foot of the table, with the Owls conceding a league-high 22 goals across their opening 10 second tier assignments of the season.
Dig a little deeper and it can be seen that Henrik Pedersen’s side have shipped at least two goals in eight of those 10 matches, including four of their five outings in front of their own supporters
That doesn't bode well ahead of the visit from a Middlesbrough side that will be in high spirits after claiming a statement 2-1 win over Ipswich last time out.
While Rob Edwards’ side have not been free-scoring this season, they have hit multiple goals in five of their 10 second tier tussles to date.
Moreover, Boro have made the net bulge twice or more in three of their five league games away from their Riverside base this term.
Across that sample, Middlesbrough have netted two or more goals against Millwall, Norwich and Preston, so there is plenty of scope for them to repeat the trick at Hillsborough this midweek.
So with all that in mind, the 17/20 (William Hill) about the visitors to deliver over 1.5 team goals on Wednesday night is a price that definitely represents value.
