SlipsTips shares a player-based selection ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion’s clash with Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Brighton vs Crystal Palace, (Sunday, 14:00)
The latest edition of the so-called M23 derby takes place on Sunday afternoon, as Brighton & Hove Albion do battle with Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium.
I’ve already covered this south coast clash in a separate match preview but I’m keen to go into more detail in regards to one of the two recommended selections that I’ve already shared.
I successfully flagged up Crystal Palace's Trevoh Chalobah to commit a foul against Man City last weekend and I see no reason to oppose a repeat on Sunday at 11/10 on Betfair.
Chalobah’s latest misdemeanour means that he has now averaged 0.89 fouls per-game across his nine Premier League appearances since arriving at Selhurst Park late in the summer transfer window.
Four of the eight free-kicks that Chalobah has given away in the top-flight this term have come away from home, with the Chelsea loanee landing himself in trouble on three occasions during the Eagles’ encounter with Aston Villa.
It’s also worth noting that the 25-year-old overstepped the mark once at Villa Park when Crystal Palace were there on EFL Cup duty at the tail end of October.
Throw in the fact that Chalobah has got himself on the wrong side of the referee against the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City, then a repeat against Fabian Hurzeler‘s free-flowing Brighton side holds plenty of appeal.
Against the Seagulls on Sunday afternoon, Chalobah is likely to be positioned in the same vicinity of the pitch as Kaoru Mitoma, whose pace and movement in the final-third is bound to give Palace's backline plenty of headaches.
The Japanese ace has long had a knack for drawing fouls from Brighton’s top-flight foes, evidenced by the fact that he earned his team no fewer than four free-kicks in their previous home game with Southampton.
With that in mind, and with it not being uncommon to see tensions boil over in this fixture, siding with the aforementioned Chalobah to commit another foul this weekend looks too big to ignore at an odds-against quote.
