Two teams with very different priorities meet in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, as Southampton square off with Newcastle at St Mary’s.
Rock-bottom Southampton have yet to benefit from the new manager bounce, with Ivan Juric’s side slumping to a fifth straight top-flight loss at Nottingham Forest last Sunday.
As for sixth-placed Newcaslte, they will be looking to get their top-four charge back on track following last week’s 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth.
With Eddie Howe’s side heavy 2/5 (Boylesports) favourites here, I’m more than happy to instead highlight an attractive player-based selection.
Alexander Isak has been chalked up at 10/11 on Bet 365 to score at anytime on Saturday and that price looks a touch too big.
While the Toon Army talisman blanked last weekend, he managed to score in each of Newcastle’s eight Premier League games prior to that.
What’s more, only Mohamed Salah (18) and Erling Haaland (17) have scored more Premier League goals than Isak (15) this season.
Therefore, at a shade under odds-against, Isak looks well placed to get back amongst the goals against a Southampton side that have been conceding goals at an alarming rate all season.
The out-of-sorts Saints have shipped 50 goals across their opening 22 top-flight tussles of the season, an average of 2.27 per-game.
That lofty average has been on the rise in recent weeks, with Southampton getting hit for five strikes in each of their last three Premier League assignments at St Mary’s.
Thus, a world class operator such as Isak will be rubbing his hands at the prospect of facing the confidence-stricken Saints on Saturday.
