SlipsTips shares a selection ahead of Scotland’s World Cup qualifier with Belarus at Hampden on Sunday evening.

Scotland vs Belarus (Sunday, 17:00)

Seeking to strengthen their bid to reach next year’s World Cup, Scotland will take on Belarus at Hampden on Sunday evening.

Steve Clarke’s side claimed back-to-back wins in Group C with a smash-and-grab 3-1 win over Greece on Thursday night.

As for Belarus, they are already staring down the barrel of elimination after being demolished 6-0 by Denmark last time out.

Given the current dynamics of the section, it’s no surprise to see Scotland as short-priced 4/7 favourites with most bookmakers on Sunday.

With the Scots too short to support on the nose, I’m instead going to propose a player-based selection that holds plenty of appeal at the odds on offer.

Scott McTominay can be backed at 17/20 on William Hill in the To Score or Assist market and that looks well worthy of support.

While McTominay has yet to reach the heights of previous campaigns, he is without doubt one of Scotland’s main attacking threats.

In fact, the Napoli ace has racked up an impressive return of 11 goals across his last 27 appearances on international duty.

A deeper dig shows that the majority of those goals (6) have been struck at Scotland’s Hampden home, including a brace against star-studded Spain during a Euro 2024 qualifier.

It’s also worth noting that McTominay provided an assist for one of the two goals that Scotland scored against Belarus in last month’s reverse fixture in Hungary.

Therefore, there is plenty of scope for the 28-year-old to register another goal involvement against a Belarus side who will arrive in Glasgow with confidence at rock bottom

The fact McTominay has also been on penalty kick duty for Scotland in recent times only adds to the appeal of siding with this particular selection at Hampden on Sunday evening.
