SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of England and Slovenia’s clash at the Under 21 European Championships on Sunday evening.
England U21 vs Slovenia U21 (Sunday, 17:00)
Aiming to record back-to-back wins in Group B, England and Slovenia face off at the Under-21's European Championships on Sunday evening.
Lee Carsley’s side got tier title defence up and running with a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic on Thursday night, justifying my faith in supporting the Young Lions on the Asian Handicap.
As for Slovenia, they suffered a heavy defeat in their opening group game, losing 3-0 to pre-tournament favourites Germany.
England -1 Handicap
England showed their superior class when putting the Czech Republic to the sword on Thursday night and they should prove too strong for Group B underdogs Slovenia. With England expected to win with room to spare again on Sunday evening, I’m more than happy to back the Young Lions to overcome a -1 handicap hurdle as the first leg of a Bet Builder double.
As already alluded to, England successfully cleared this handicap in their opening win of the tournament, and that was also a recurring theme during the qualification stage. In fact, seven of England’s eight victories en route to this summer's European Championships were achieved by a two-goal margin or more.
That doesn’t augur well for a Slovenia side that were swatted aside 3-0 by Germany in their maiden match of the competition. What’s more, the Slovenians also suffered a pair of heavy defeats to Norway during qualification, losing 3-0 away from home before being on the wrong end of a 4-1 reverse on their own patch.
England 4 or More Corners
With England set to enjoy the lion's share of possession on Sunday evening, I’ll complete the Bet Builder by backing the reigning champions to earn a minimum of four corners. England’s full-backs like to get forward as much as possible, and that is likely to be the case here given that Slovenia will look to soak up pressure and frustrate their opponents.
Carsley’s side were prolific on the corner front when securing qualification, covering the 4+ corner line in each of their 10 preliminary fixtures. The Young Lions have since landed five flag-kicks in their matchday one win over the Czech Republic. Thus, England look well placed to hit a minimum of four corners on Sunday evening when they go up against a Slovenia side that had to defend five corners against Germany last time out.
