After a convincing start, Wolfsburg’s performances have descended into chaos, with three winless matches in a row. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig bounced back from the 6-0 thrashing in the opening round and won their last three matches. And on Saturday, they will arrive at the Volkswagen Arena.
Wolfsburg made a strong impression in the opening round when they beat Heidenheim 3-1. But their inability to maintain a lead led to them dropping points against Koln and Mainz, before losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund, which was totally expected. And their treatment room is becoming more and more crowded with each round, complicating things even more. Their goalscoring abilities are the one main positive, but that alone will never be enough in the Bundesliga.
Interestingly, RB Leipzig faced three out of the four opponents that crossed Wolfsburg’s path. With the only difference being that the Red Bulls crushed all of them. Theoretically, this should give them a strong chance against the Wolves, right? Leipzig kicked off the season with a humiliating 6-0 loss to Bayern Munich but didn’t let the result crush their spirit. They looked great over the last few rounds but have much to prove as their away record in 2025 has been terrible.
How the bookies view it: They couldn’t separate them
Bookmakers couldn’t name a favourite in the upcoming clash, giving the two teams nearly identical odds. Depending on the bookie, you may see both sides with a slight edge, but the general trend shows Wolfsburg at 31/20 with a minimal advantage over RB Leipzig’s 33/10. Meanwhile, the draw is available at around 13/5.
Recent head-to-head: We saw 11 goals in two games last season
This rivalry has been one of the most interesting ones in the Bundesliga in recent years, as the matches often turn out unpredictable. We’ve seen both sides win and lose with considerable margins. Over the last four years, RB have won six times and Wolfsburg four. Last season, in particular, we saw the Red Bulls win 3-2 away after Wolfsburg thrashed them 5-1 in Leipzig.
Players to watch: Romulo could be RB’s next star
RB Leipzig replaced much of their frontline ahead of the new season and we can’t yet tell which of the new players will shine for the team. But we got a really strong impression from Cardoso Romulo, who arrived from the Turkish Gotzepe for a whopping 20 million euros. It didn’t take long for him to start scoring and already has two goals and an assist in the last three games. He nailed 17 goals and had nine assists last season for his former club.

Anything else catch the eye?
The last five Bundesliga H2Hs all ended with at least three goals, and the two from last season featured five and six goals respectively. Wolfsburg’s defence has been the weak link in recent weeks and RB Leipzig will take full advantage of every opportunity. We will not risk it with an open bet for RB to win, but we will definitely back a couple of the goal markets.
