Switzerland vs Lithuania

, KO: 18:45 Mar 28, 2021, Kybunpark
Lithuania

Switzerland will attempt to make it two wins from two when they host Lithuania in their second Group C fixture in the European World Cup qualifiers. They have impressed in recent matches and should have too much quality for the Lithuanians.

The Swiss made a fine start to their campaign as they claimed a 3-0 victory in Bulgaria on Thursday. They made a fast start and raced to a three-goal lead through Breel Embolo, Haris Seferovic and Steven Zuber before conceding one after the break.

Vladimir Petkovic’s men appear to have put their disappointing UEFA Nations League campaign behind them with wins in their last two matches. They earned a 3-0 victory against Ukraine prior the win against Bulgaria.

Switzerland often do their best work on their own turf with just one defeat in their last seven home matches. Among their results in that run is a 4-0 triumph over Gibraltar while they also claimed a 2-0 victory over Republic of Ireland.

Lithuania head into Sunday’s clash off the back of a 4-0 defeat to Kosovo in a friendly on Wednesday. They barely threatened and offered little resistance at the back to the Kosovans.

The result means Valdes Urbonas’ men have lost two of their last three matches across all competitions. They also have a poor record on the road with nine defeats in their last 14 away matches, including a 6-0 loss to Portugal.

How the bookies view it

Switzerland are overwhelming favourites here and are backed at 1/16 by SBK to secure a home win. A victory for Lithuania is priced at 50/1 by betfair while Vbet is offering 16/1 for a draw.

Switzerland have too much quality for Lithuania and should ease to a comfortable victory.

Head to head

Switzerland have won their two previous matches against Lithuania with the last one a 2-1 victory during the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Players to watch

Switzerland have multiple attacking threats and showed their quality on Thursday with three different goal scorers. Haris Seferovic is priced at 1/2 by Unibet to score anytime, bet365 is offering 5/6 on Breel Embolo in the same market while also backing Steven Zuber at 6/5 to get on the score sheet.

The Swiss are also unlikely to have much trouble in defence with Nico Elvedi and Manuel Akanji often solid at the back. Both men could help them keep a clean sheet which is priced at 17/50 by Sporting Index.

Anything else catch the eye?

With Switzerland expected to earn a comfortable win, a -2-handicap bet could be considered at 4/6 with Paddy Power. It could also be worth a punt backing the Swiss to win by a three-goal margin at 10/3 with Sporting Index.
