WERDER BREMEN desperately need a win in Freiburg as they bid to avoid dropping out of the Bundesliga for the first time in four decades.
I tipped Leverkusen to have too much firepower for the fallen giants on their return to action last weekend but I didn't expect Werder to be thrashed quite so comprehensively in a 4-1 defeat.
That sobering defeat has left Werder five points behind Fortuna Dusseldorf, who occupy the relegation play-off slot, and a daunting nine points behind fourth-bottom Mainz.
Fans will be fearing the drop more than ever and they need to start picking up some victories but a trip to Freiburg presents a tough challenge.
Few people fancied Christian Streich's men to take anything from Leipzig last weekend but they battled to a 1-1 draw and would have claimed a win had VAR not ruled out a stoppage-time strike.
The point left Freiburg sitting seventh in the table and they will be confident of piling more agony on Werder. But Bremen can take heart from the fact rock-bottom Paderborn won 2-0 in Freiburg back in February.

Recent head to head
Werder can take some heart from the fact they have only lost one of their last seven meetings with Freiburg. That was a 1-0 loss on the road in 2018, with Bremen winning three times and the other three games ending in a stalemate.
When these sides faced off in Bremen earlier this season it was a 2-2 draw, with Nils Petersen grabbing a dramatic late leveller for a Freiburg side that had just been reduced to 10 men.
Players to watch
Freiburg forward Petersen netted twice in Bremen in that 2-2 draw so he will fancy getting back among the goals here. Petersen is the favourite in the anytime scorer market but is still a decent 8/5 with Bet365 for a goal.
Milot Rashica let me down when I tipped him to score against Leverkusen but I'll stick with him here as Paddy Power price him at a tempting 11/4 to get on the scoresheet.
Anything else catch the eye?
Despite their poor form, Werder still offer a threat in attack and my tip of both teams to score came up in their clash with Leverkusen. Both teams to score is a best 8/13 with Sportingbet here but doubling it with a Freiburg win pays 3/1 at Bet365.
Werder's Niklas Moisander has been pretty ill-disciplined all season, picking up five yellows and one red. He was booked last weekend and looks overpriced for a card here at 7/2 with Bet365.
