San Jose Earthquakes play host to New York Red Bulls on Saturday night looking to strengthen their hold of sixth place in the Western Conference table.
Bruce Arena's side have been inconsistent in recent matches, accumulating just two wins from their last six games, to now sit 12 points adrift of the leaders.
Meanwhile, New York Red Bulls are in seventh position in the Eastern Conference table on the back of a three-match winless streak in MLS.
As such, they are now 11 points adrift of top spot and very much focused on trying to remain in an automatic playoff spot.
How the bookies see it: Earthquakes backed to make impact at PayPal Park
Despite their similar positions in different leagues, San Jose Earthquakes are being backed by BoyleSports to come through this contest.
The home side are priced at 10/11 with the visitors out at 21/10. That is despite the Earthquakes winning just three of their 10 home league matches in 2025.
Meanwhile, the draw is attractively priced at 11/4, something which may be a popular choice given both teams lack of victories.
Head to head: Red Bulls looking to extend unbeaten run
In 28 previous competitive matches between the two sides, it is the Red Bulls that have had the better of proceedings, prevailing on 12 occasions in comparison to eight triumphs for the Earthquakes.
Meanwhile, the visitors have won six times in 16 games at PayPal Park, the Earthquakes only accumulating seven victories.
However, the last such meeting came all the way back in 2022, New York Red Bulls prevailing by a 3-1 scoreline on that occasion.
San Jose Earthquakes are on a five-game winless streak in MLS matches against New York Red Bulls.
Players to watch: Choupo-Moting to continue form in final third?
Despite their recent mixed form, San Jose Earthquakes remain with the second-best attacking record in the Western Conference with 40 goals from 20 games.
Eighteen of those strikes have come from Cristian Arango (10) and Josef Martinez (8), while Cristian Espinoza has eight assists to his name.
Veteran Cameroon striker Eric Choupo-Moting has been the star of the season for the Red Bulls, the 36-year-old netting 11 times in 19 appearances.
Emil Forsberg has also made an impact with six goals and four assists, but his goal in the 2-2 draw with Minnesota United last time out ended a six-game drought.
Predicted lineups: Martinez to receive Earthquakes recall?
Martinez is pushing for a return to the Earthquakes attack, potentially taking the spot of Preston Judd who failed to make an impact against Los Angeles Galaxy.
Max Floriani could also return to the back three with Rodrigues dropping out of the side.
Alexander Hack is an option to be recalled to the Red Bulls back three, potentially ahead of Omar Valencia who could switch to left wing-back.
Serge Ngoma would be the player to drop out if that alteration is made.
San Jose Earthquakes: Daniel; Floriani, Munie, Romney; Jones, Leroux, Kaye, Costa; Espinoza, Martinez, Arango
New York Red Bulls: Coronel; Nealis, Eile, Hack; Duncan, Stroud, Carballo, Valencia; Sofo; Choupo-Moting, Forsberg
Anything else catch the eye?
While the Earthquakes have only won three times in 10 home games, Red Bulls have just one away victory on their MLS record for 2025.
The Earthquakes have netted an incredible 26 goals in their 10 fixtures on familiar territory, yet have still managed to concede 18 times.
As such, PayPal Park has been the venue for the most goals in the Western Conference by a considerable margin.
However, at a time when the Earthquakes have posted three successive home draws, the Red Bulls have collected four points from their last three away encounters.
