San Diego FC play host to Houston Dynamo on Saturday night looking to extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference table.
Despite suffering five defeats in their 20 MLS fixtures, San Diego have prevailed from their last four contests to lead by a point from Vancouver Whitecaps.
Meanwhile, Houston are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings, not helped by a recent three-game losing streak.
However, a narrow 1-0 triumph over St Louis City last time out has kept them within three points of seventh spot.
How the bookies see it: San Diego the clear favourites
As you would expect, the bookies are backing San Diego FC to come through this contest with three points, and the 4/6 on offer from BoyleSports is an attractive bet.
The draw can be had at 14/5 with the visitors priced at 3/1 to record a surprise win. They have only prevailed on two occasions in nine away MLS encounters during 2025.
Head to head: The inaugural meeting
With San Diego FC only joining MLS this season, this is the first-ever encounter between these sides.
Players to watch: Dreyer to continue eye-catching MLS form
Anders Dreyer has contributed nine goals and 12 assists from his 20 starts in MLS during 2025 and is the obvious player to watch.
Since returning from international duty with Denmark, he has scored three times and chipped in with a further five assists in just three appearances.
San Diego have netted 12 times across those games, Mexican star Hirving Lozano having also contributed either a goal or assist in his last two outings.
Only Ezequiel Ponce (5) has scored more than three times in his Dynamo side, ending a three-game drought to net the only goal of the game against St Louis last time out.
Predicted lineups: Lozano, Angel to be rewarded with San Diego start?
With San Diego having come from behind to beat FC Dallas by a 3-2 scoreline, changes are a possibility with both Lozano and Tomas Angel scoring after coming off the substitutes' bench.
Alex Mighten and Milan Iloski appear most likely to drop out of the team to accommodate their recalls.
Lawrence Ennali is pushing for his first MLS start of the campaign having been given 45 minutes in the win over St Louis City.
Ethan Bartlow may also return in the centre of defence after replacing veteran Erik Sviatchenko shortly after half time.
San Diego FC: Santos; Verhoeven, McVey, Pilcher, Bombino; Duah, Tverskov; Dreyer, Valakari, Lozano; Angel
Houston Dynamo: Bond; Andrade, Bartlow, Ortiz, Escobar; Raines, Artur; Ennali, Bassi, Lingr; Ponce
Anything else catch the eye?
San Diego boast the best home record in the Western Conference, accumulating 21 points from 10 games and conceding just the seven goals.
In sharp contrast, Houston have 10 points from their nine away encounters, albeit only conceding 12 times.
The home side have netted 14 times in their last four games in MLS, that run commencing after they had failed to score in a 1-0 defeat at fifth-placed Seattle Sounders.
Houston have scored in their last 11 matches in all competitions, a run stretching all the way back to May 4.
