Rangers vs Hearts

, KO: 15:00 Oct 29, 2023, Ibrox
Hearts

RANGERS welcome Hearts to Ibrox on Sunday as Philippe Clement aims to make it two league wins out of two.

The new Belgian coach led Rangers to a convincing win over Hibs in Glasgow last week to make an impressive start.

In midweek, his side clung on for what could yet be an important point in the Czech Republic against Sparta Prague.

The Rangers side under Michael Beale would surely have lost that after being swamped with waves of attacks, so they can take plenty from a gutsy backs-against-the-wall display.

And it's likely to be a vastly different game on Sunday where Rsngers will have the majority of possession against a struggling Hearts side.

The knives are getting sharpened for former Rangers hero Steven Naismith. Tynecastle was far from full and emptied long before the end of last week's one-sided 4-1 hammering from Celtic in the capital.

Naismith has never really convinced the Hearts fans after a messy promotion to the manager's job which he shared initially with Frankie McAvoy and there remains huge doubts over his progress.

Quite how it took him an hour last week to make any subs when his team were being overrun is remarkable and previously blowing a two-goal lead at home to Hibs in the Edinburgh derby hardly endeared him to the fans either.

How the bookies view it

Rangers are clear favourites here unsurprisingly at 1/3 with Coral. Hearts can be backed at 9/1 with the same firm and the draw is 9/2 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

Hearts have failed to win at Ibrox for nine years since they were both in the Championship.

Last season, they did manage a point at Ibrox in a 2-2 draw but were well beaten in the other three games,

Players to watch

Rangers may shuffle the pack, but captain James Tavernier is a cert to play as usual and his goalscoring prowess is well known, especially from set pieces. He is 13/2 to score with Boylesports.

Lawrence Shankland finally broke an eight-game scoring drought last week when he grabbed a consolation against Celtic. The Scotland international and Hearts skipper is 3/1 to score anytime with Unibet.

Anything else catch the eye?

Rangers really should be too strong for a Hearts side who are lacking in confidence. If they can keep a clean sheet against Sparta Prague, they can do it against Hearts – back them to win to nil at BetVictor at 13/10.

Hearts' defence does not convince either as Celtic showed last week when they could and should have scored more than four goals at Tynecastle.
