Netherlands vs Malta

, KO: 19:45 , Euroborg Stadion
Malta

Netherlands resume their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign when they entertain Malta at the Euroborg Stadion on Tuesday night.

The Oranje are having to play catch up in Group G due to their involvement in the latter stages of the Nations League earlier this year.

However, Ronald Koeman’s side hit the ground running in their quest to qualify for next year's showpiece with a 2-0 success away at Finland on Saturday night.

Returning to home soil this midweek, the Dutch will be expected to make light work of international minnows Malta.

While the Reds are currently propping up the section, they did put a point on the board when holding Lithuania to a 0-0 draw last time out.

However, it would be fair to say that Malta will face a serious upgrade on that challenge when they take on the Netherlands on Tuesday night.

How the bookies view it: Netherlands win nailed on

This fixture is a clear mismatch and that is reflected in the pre-match odds, with a Netherlands win as short as 1/50 on Boylesports.

Malta are as big as 25/1 on Boylesports to pull off a huge shock on Tuesday night, while the draw is also considered highly improbable at 14/1 with the same firm.

Head to head: History book blank

Netherlands and Malta will come up against each other for the first time ever on Tuesday night.

The Dutch came up against a similar standard of opposition during the qualifying stages for Euro 2024, defeating Gibraltar both home and away. Netherlands won both halves and kept a clean sheet in those respective fixtures, and the same combination can be backed here at 10/11 with William Hill.

Players to watch: Memphis to make his mark?

After firing against Finland last time out, Memphis Depay looks well placed to make the net bulge against Malta on Tuesday night. Backing the Dutch forward to strike alongside BTTS No will bring about a 20/23 Bet Builder on Bet 365.

Wigan defender James Carragher will be aiming to help Malta claim a second clean sheet in succession in Groningen on Tuesday night.

Predicted line-ups

As was the case in Helsinki on Saturday night, Netherlands will again be unable to call upon injured quartet Bart Verbruggen, Brian Brobbey, Jurrien Timber and Jerdy Schouten.

Malta will welcome back both Gabriel Mentz and Kurt Shaw from suspension, however Ilyas Chouaref is still on the naughty step.

Netherlands: Flekken; Dumfries, Van Hecke, Van Dijk, Ake; De Jong, Reijnders, Gravenberch; Gakpo, Depay, Frimpong

Malta: Bonello; Z. Muscat, Carragher, Pepe; J. Mbong, Guillaumier, Teuma, Satariano, Camenzuli, Nwoko, P. Mbong

Anything else catch the eye?

The Netherlands look well worthy of support to score two or more first-half goals on Tuesday night at 4/5 on Bet 365.

Koeman’s side raced into a two-goal lead inside 23 minutes during Saturday night’s aforementioned success away at Finland.

Up against far inferior opposition this midweek, the Dutch are more than capable of delivering at least a couple of goals before the interval.
