It has been a traumatic summer for Lyon but at least they're still in Ligue 1 as they get the new campaign underway with a trip to Lens.
The French giants were facing demotion to the second tier after being penalised for their financial problems, amid rumoured debts of over £150million.
Lyon won their appeal and managed to hang on to their place in the top flight but they've been forced to discard some top players, with Rayan Cherki, Thiago Almada, Alexandre Lacazette and Said Benrahma among those moving on.
There has been change behind the scenes as well and Lyon's bid to get back on track has been helped by hanging on to their place in the Europa League.
But this could still be a challenging season for boss Paulo Fonseca and it will be interesting to see what shape they are in when they kick off the new campaign.
A trip to Stade Bollaert-Delelis isn't the easiest of assignments for day one, with Lens finishing inside the top eight in their five seasons since winning promotion back to Ligue 1.
Pierre Sage took the reins from Franck Haise this summer and he knows all about Lyon, having risen through the ranks there to become first-team coach. Lyon axed him in January so Sage will be looking to get revenge as he returns to the dugout.
How the bookies view it: Lens with the edge
With Lyon's squad hit by so many departures, they are BoyleSports' 2/1 outsiders for this one. Lens look worth a punt at odds of 13/10 and the draw pays 12/5.
Recent head to head: Lyon up against it
Lens have held the upper hand in this fixture of late, winning three of the last four and drawing the other. They're also unbeaten in their last five home matches against Lyon, including a dreary 0-0 stalemate last term.
Players to watch: Satriano in the spotlight
Florian Thauvin is Lens' big-name signing this summer but no bookies have any prices for the former France international to score. Fellow new boy Martin Satriano should start and the former Inter Milan man is 14/5 at Unibet for a goal.
Georges Mikautadze is one of the few Lyon stars who has stayed put and they are likely to lean heavily on the Georgian for goals this season. He's 21/10 at William Hill to get off the mark.
Probable line-ups
Lens are set to be without Jhoanner Chavez and Remy Lascary while Lyon's Ernest Nuamah and Orel Mangala are out injured. There has been a big turnaround in players at each of these teams so plenty of new signings could be handed debuts.
Lens: Risser, Udol, Sarr, Baidoo, Aguillar, Samed, Diouf, Thomasson, Agbonifo, Thauvin, Satriano.
Lyon: Descamps, Tagliafico, Niakhate, Mata, Maitland-Niles, Morton, Tolisso, Sulc, Diawara, Fofana, Mikautadze.
Anything else catch the eye?
We didn't see a single goal when Lyon last came to Lens and this match could take a while to get going with so many new players bedding in. That makes the half-time draw appealing at 23/20 with BoyleSports while betting against BTTS pays 11/8.
While we didn't see a goal in that game at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis last term, the corner count eventually finished on 13. That suggests over nine corners looks decent value at 10/11 with Bet365.
