Hearts vs Rangers

, KO: 20:00 Dec 6, 2023, Tynecastle

RANGERS remain unbeaten under Philippe Clement, but they have a real test coming up this week at improving Hearts in traditionally one of their most tricky away fixtures.

The Ibrox side eased past St Mirren on Sunday with little in the way of fuss thanks to a goal in each half in a 2-0 win. It wasn't a vintage display, but they were rarely in danger and the three points were the only thing that mattered after two disappointing performances at Aberdeen at Pittodrie and at home to Aris Limassol in the Europa League.

But a trip along the M8 to Gorgie is a game that can give Rangers problems and with Celtic hosting another capital club Hibs on the same night, Wednesday could have a pivotal role to play in the title race.

It's a repeat of the Viaplay Cup semi-final and Hearts will be itching to prove a point after simply failing to turn up at Hampden.

Steven Naismith was under real pressure, but he's turned it around and they now look good things for third place if they maintain their decent form.

They have won four league games in a row without conceding a goal and will be desperate to inflict that first defeat on Belgian boss Clement.

How the bookies view it

Rangers are strong odds-on favourites here at 8/15 with bet365.

Hearts can be backed at 5/1 with Coral and the draw is 7/2 with Paddy Power.

Recent head to heads

Rangers have twice defeated Hearts this season already, They need two injury time goals to do so at Ibrox in the league, but comfortably beat them in the Viaplay Cup semi-final.

Hearts were twice crushed at Tynecastle last season by Rangers conceding seven goals without reply.

Players to watch

Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland has long been linked with a move to Rangers and it would be no surprise if he did eventually sign for them, But he's already scored twice against them this season and the Jambos skipper is 21/10 to score anytime with bet365.

Abdallah Sima has been one of the hits for Rangers this season in a mixed bag of summer transfers and scored a double at the weekend to sink St Mirren and make it 11 goals for the season. The on loan Brighton star is 8/5 to score anytime with bet365.

Anything else catch the eye?

This should be a decent contest with Hearts in good form and desperate to prove a point after their Hampden no-show.

But Rangers' squad looks stronger in all areas and it could end up in the same way as the other two games this season – a Rangers win with both teams to score at 21/10 with William Hill.

Hearts have picked up nine cards in their two games against Rangers so far and Tynecastle under the lights usually means a cracking atmosphere. Go for Hearts to get most cards at 6/5 with bet365.
